Job purpose
To evaluate, develop, implement and direct respiratory in the facility. The Respiratory Therapist will promote respiratory wellness and illness prevention with current practices with the intent to maintain the highest level of function for all residents in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards governing the facility.
The Respiratory Therapist works closely with doctors to recommend interventions to treat patients and cut down hospital admissions.
Duties and responsibilities
- Interview and examine patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders
- Consult with physicians to develop patient treatment plans
- Perform diagnostic tests and treat patients by using a variety of methods
- Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure safe standards of care promoting respiratory wellness
- Monitor and record patients progress
- Teach patients, their families and staff how to use treatments and equipment
- Assist in discharge planning and education for resident and families
- Assures resident safety
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Therapy required
- Current and valid RRT
- 2 years' active therapy experience required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong clinical skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of therapy procedures for patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric
- Ability to work collaboratively with nurses, doctors and other staff
Physical requirements
- The position walks, sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves continually during working hours.
- The position is subject to lifting objects weighing over 50 pounds, pushing wheel chairs, and transporting and supporting residents.
- The employee must be constantly alert for resident safety.
