What are the responsibilities and job description for the Group Exercise Coordinator position at Old Colony YMCA?
Under the supervision of the Fitness Director, the Group Exercise Coordinator is to provide leadership and supervision to all Group Exercise Instructors creating a safe, positive, supportive environment for all participants. The Group Exercise Coordinator will uphold the employee code of conduct and will ensure that all areas of the job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y, and the regulating agencies. The Group Exercise Coordinator will display and encourage the character traits of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITES
- Ensure effective management of the group exercise department as it relates to member retention and recruitment
- Build success of Old Colony Y core group exercise programming and Les Mills programs (includes On Demand connection)
- Create and manage branch group exercise schedule using class targets and cost per head reports to evaluate success
- Adjust schedule seasonally in accordance with agreed upon Old Colony YMCA schedule launch dates
- Ensure accurate and timely program records including: class headcount data, monthly scheduling reports, ongoing instructor evaluation and accident/incident reports.
- Maintain group exercise stereo equipment and ensure good working order and ease of use for instructors
- Hold monthly staff meetings
- Develop communication systems to use group exercise as a connection to all the branch and Association has to offer
- Maintain Group Exercise section of the member app
- Use social media to highlight and build excitement around Group Exercise offerings at the Y
- Assist with special promotional activities (distribution of “Spotted” cards to aid in ongoing instructor recruitment, Distribution of “bring a friend”/guest passes, open house, demonstrations, health and wellness fairs and verbal class announcements)
- Assist with annual special events, e.g. Spinathon
- Assist with instructor recruitment and training events
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Programs including Word, Excel and Power Point, Social Media proficiency preferred
- A minimum of 2 years' experience as a Group Exercise Instructor
- Holds a minimum of 1 group exercise certification, Les Mills preferred
