The Clinical Float is responsible for a broad variety of patient care, technical and clerical related functions. Coordinates patient flow for physicians and ensures continuity of high level of patient care and efficient patient flow by ensuring the healthcare team following clinical standards of excellent care.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs clinical duties, as appropriate, such as taking vital signs, setting up and assisting with minor procedures, blood pressure, point of care testing, etc
Assists physicians with clinical procedures, such as injections/aspirations, casting, wound management, verifying and preparing medications, and prepping the patient
Prepares charts for upcoming clinics
Retrieves and enters patient data for MRIs, X-Rays, EMGs, etc
Coordinates surgery scheduling as needed
Ensures rooming of patients in a timely matter in order to maintain clinic flow for physicians and physician assistants
Receives incoming patient calls and returns patient calls in a timely matter
Records accurate, complete, legible and timely documentation as needed in the patient’s medical record
Provides patient education related to treatment recommendations
Assists physicians and physician assistants with ordering medications and diagnostic testing
Scribes for physicians and physician assistances
Completes patient paperwork in a timely manner
Follows correct procedures for handling and disposing of biohazardous, infectious, and pharmaceutical waste
Prepares, cleans and sterilizes, and/or reprocesses, instruments and maintain equipment, according to organizational standards
Anticipates and proactively plans for practitioner and patient needs
Provides open and timely communication and information to patients, families, and practitioners (as appropriate)
Reports pertinent observations and information, both written and verbal, to appropriate staff
Assists in orientation of new team members
Maintains all necessary certifications and licensure, including first aid and/or CPR, state licensure, national certifications, and continuing education
Stays up to date on required trainings such as OSHA, Medicare fraud/waste training, blood borne pathogens training, and sexual harassment training
Maintains strict patient confidentiality and follows all HIPAA guidelines
Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED, required
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or ability to obtain Registered Orthopedic Technician (ROT) certification successfully within 6 months from date of hire and maintain certification renewal every 2 years, required
One year of experience in a similar role, preferred
Working knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suites, preferred
Environmental/Working Conditions:
Working environment is in an office/clinic setting.
