What are the responsibilities and job description for the EEG Tech position at OSU Medical Center?
The technologist is responsible for the preparation of the patient, the conduct of the various EEG examinations, and the collection of information pertinent to the interpretation of the tests. Performs standard EEG recordings (wake and sleep, bedside, isolation, and electrocerebral inactivitiy evaluations). Records computer-averaged electrical responses to visual and auditory stimuli. Records EEGs for neonates, including those in the neonatal intensive care unit. Summarizes the patient's neurologic status and clinical history for the chart, patient, or other knowledgeable persons. Explains the recording procedure to the patient and any family members present. Adapts methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on history, clinical observations, and EEG findings. Provides appropriate patient care and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizures and other patient emergency situation. Ensures electrical safety of the patient at all times. Keeps equipment in clean and operating condition at all times. Performs maintenance and minor repair of laboratory equipment and reports the need for major repair. Participates in conferences, technical meetings, and other educational activities. The EKG Tech is responsible for performing assigned work duties including but not limited to: EKGs, Rhythm strips, Holter Monitor hook up, discontinuance/scanning, Event Recorders, retrieving and filing existing tests, copying and charging of services rendered, editing, confirming EKGs, entering charges and surgery schedules. Must be able to perform all patient testing offered by the EKG Department and complete all managerial activities. Must be able to troubleshoot all EKG equipment and related duties as assigned. Accepts designated assignments and reports to the stress lab RN and the Director of Cardiovascular Services. Performs all other duties as assigned.
