Overview

Lead all beer production at Outer Range Frisco in accordance with the direction and guidance of company leadership. The Head Brewer will be responsible for maintaining operation standards to ensure consistent production and quality. Overall responsible for the quality of beer production at Outer Range. This position will require close collaboration with team members, self-direction, and the direction of other team members.


JOB PURPOSE / SUMMARY

The Head Brewer will work closely with the Director of brewing and the production team in all facets of operations to ensure consistent production and highest quality. 

This position will require strong Leadership skills, a close collaboration with team members, self-direction, good knowledge in process planning, high understanding of brewing processes and their impact on product quality, strong skills to troubleshoot, coordinate and carry out maintenance work. Training and directing of other team members, strong understanding of planning brew/cellar and packaging schedule. Strong communication skills with superiors and team members and the drive to step in if a team member falls out or equipment breaks. Representing the Brewery at official events will also be an important part of this role. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Brew consistently. 
  • Enter all recipes into Ekos, making sure they are accurate with the recipes in the Google Drive. Enter all beers brewed into ekos. 
  • Create new recipes (approved by Director of brewing, CEO)
  • Help with Daily Brewing and Cellar Tasks
  • Make sure beer is up to brand and quality standards to release.. 
  • Keep brewing schedule chart updated 
  • Keep track of all Production Inventory 
  • Train team members
  • Identify gaps in brewing and Cellar processes.
  • Optimize Brewing and Cellar Processes together with Director of Brewing
  • Coordinate Daily/Weekly Brewing and Cellar Tasks
  • Coordinate Daily/Weekly and Monthly Maintenance Tasks
  • Maintain or Improve Product Quality 
  • Inventory Management
  • Manage Raw Materials
  • Manage all hop inventory and shipments. 
  • Manage all grain inventory and orders. 
  • Enter all ordered raw material inventory invoices into ekos. 
  • Enter all beer movement and invoices into Ekos / oversee that it is done correctly and consistently
  • Grist data entry
  • Managerial Tasks
  • Lead QAQC officer and ensure QAQC program is being run to standard
  • Lead Packaging Manager and ensure Packaging team is being managed effectively
  • Lead brew and cellar team
  • Make the employee schedule maintaining 3 weeks out at all times
  • Manage spent grain pickups with farmers. 
  • Make the weekly task schedule for brews, packaging, transfers, dry hops, etc. 
  • Effectively run the weekly production meeting - take notes and follow through on items discussed prior to the determined deadline.
  • Fill out the Weekly Scorecard 
  • Coordinate all outside production, responsible for schedule and logistics, even if components of these are delegated
  • Monitor 
  • Fermentations. 
  • Dry hop cannon. 
  • Run centrifuge as needed. 
  • Maintain glycol chiller operation. 
  • Gantt Chart - effectively communicating changes to relevant department leads
  • Beer releases and changes/adjustments to them

  • Maintain communication with TMCI and KMALT during brewhouse failures
  • Director of brewing / General Manager 
  • For invoice questions, payment concerns, general questions, etc.
  • Taproom Manager
  • Beer releases, allocations, beer education, etc.
  • Sales - 
  • Communicating with the sales team to ensure they are aware of production/brewing/packaging changes that impact when products become available to them. i.e. items not making the truck that were supposed to, etc. 
  • Any quality concerns with finished products that need to be addressed with products at FMG, Elite, taproom, or in-market - work collaboratively with QA/QC Officer to address concerns.

Our community outreach coordinator has a number of relationships with organizations in the county that need support for the betterment of our community. As an Employee at Outer Range Brewing, you are obligated to serve 2 hours of community service a quarter. This is 20.00/hour for hourly employees and part of the quarterly expectations for salaried individuals. Outer Range will compensate its hourly employees for up to 10 hours a quarter.
