Overview

We are looking for a hospitality professionals to join our team as an Internal Auditor!

The Internal Auditor directly reports to the Director of Finance on the management of day-to-day finance and venue activities aimed to ensure internal controls and compliance standards created to maximize financial outcomes and performance standards of the Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) and its City Center Campus. The Internal Auditor will be responsible for, or will assist in, the planning of audit assignments and risk assessments including tests of controls for financial audits, IT audits, internal controls, operational performance and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This position has multiple responsibilities that will interconnect with MBCC departments, and contract partners that provide complete support to achieve the common goal of optimum financial and operational performance. It will have periodic check-ins with the MBCC’s General Manager. The Internal Auditor will work independently, with minimal day to day supervision. Goals, objectives, management oversight and performance evaluation will be provided by the Director of Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with MBCC senior leadership and other contract partners to develop annual and ad hoc reviews of targeted services and generalized focus for quality assurance, control, compliance, excellence in customer service and service fulfillment enhancements.
  • Audits, provides solutions and strategic insight on MBCC services and procedures, particularly revenue generating and customer-facing services. Develops recommendations for enhanced control procedures and systems, revenue maximization, cost reduction, and service improvement.
  • Assesses existing data and research to identify areas for improvement for the MBCC to maximize financial and operational performance, drive revenue and economic impact.
  • Works closely with MBCC senior leadership on developing and maintaining a contract management database that tracks all MBCC contracts with emphasis on ensuring contract compliance by all appropriate parties.
  • Develops internal programs, notably written policy, and procedural documentation, for ongoing quality assurance, quality control and best practices.
  • Provides guidance and research results to MBCC senior leadership regarding best practices, especially among conventions and meetings industry, with respect to performance-based contracting, quality control and customer service excellence and related efforts. Collaborates with various industry associations or local industry partners on research projects as needed.
  • Supports in developing regular feedback and improvement process related to MBCC client survey data collected by the MBCC.
  • Consults regularly with MBCC departments and contract partners regarding potential enhancements to MBCC services, including but not limited to potential new services, and assists in preparation of budget proposals required to support such initiatives.
  • Works with Human Resources Business Partner to develop and implement training materials and other instructional information that can be used to ensure uniform practices and excellence in customers service within the MBCC that is related to performance-based objectives.
  • Works with the Director of Finance in managing the MBCC purchasing process including developing, auditing, and implementing purchasing strategies. Assists in RFP bid preparations and analyzing bid responses.
  • Works with MBCC senior leadership on capital planning procedures including cost estimating, revenue generation while identifying variances between forecast and actual expenses over the life of a project.
  • Supports MBCC Finance department requirements for monthly and year end close, particularly with respect to annual performance reporting, trend analysis, research, goals, and objectives setting and performance-based outcomes.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not have direct report supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other related field with a minimum of three experience of experience in , in Accounting, Auditing or Finance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires strong understanding of accounting principles, control procedures and audit techniques.
  • Requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, exhibit strong attention to detail and follow-through, negotiating skills, oral and written communication skills, ability to partner effectively with all departments, and the ability to meet deadlines and facilitate the flow of information within the MBCC.
  • Candidate must be proficient in MS Office Suite and Accounting & Finance software and other related systems.
  • Candidate must have working knowledge of all state and federal employment-related regulations.
  • A well-organized individual who is a team player, possesses excellent communication skills, flexibility, the ability to work in strict confidence, the ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully, proven attendance record, and is committed to the MBCC Mission.
