What are the responsibilities and job description for the Thomas Marine Company- Heavy Equipment Mechanic position at Owen Ames Kimball?
Road & Bridge contractor seeks an experienced heavy equipment mechanic for our field operations with a minimum of 5 years’ experience. Must have a valid driver’s license. Knowledge of heavy equipment, welding experience, and a CDL license is a plus but not required.
Main Position Responsibilities:
-Safely keeping "owned" equipment running and maintained properly.
-Diagnose and repair all systems on equipment including engines, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, etc.
- Must be able to perform PM services and general maintenance on construction equipment and on-road trucks.
- Position may require several hours of driving daily to and from job sites.
-Position reports directly to Equipment Manager.
-Excellent communication skills to articulate issues and equipment statuses, and the proper steps needed to rectify.
-The ability to work autonomously. This is a field position where you will be performing most of your duties alone.
-Strong organizational and cleanliness skills.
Our company utilizes HCSS E360 for our shop management software. Position will come with company issued iPad. All work orders, parts ordering, and timecards will be submitted using this software.

- Loaders, 30,000lbs-45,000lbs
- Dozers, D3 size
- Grader, 670G
- Skid Steers
- Rollers, single and double drum. 8,000lbs-35,000lbs
- Friction Cranes, 40 ton-165 ton
- Box blade tractors
- Water pumps, hydraulic, jet, diaphragm
- Screed machines
- On-Road tractors
- Fleet of 150-550 size pickup trucks
- Pile driving equipment, augers, vibratory, diesel hammers
- Water trucks & trailers
- Small engines, cut saws, vibrators, compactors, pumps, etc.
This position is primarily located in the field, however, some days as schedule allows you will be in shop assisting other mechanics or working independently.
The position includes a newer model Dodge 5500 fully outfitted service truck for use during the workday.
We do not supply hand tools. You should have all the necessary tools to properly perform this trade with the exception of the computer diagnostic equipment.
Typical work hours are 45-50 per week. This is accomplished in a Monday through Friday setting. We start at 6:00am, and rarely are required to work weekends. More overtime is available if you desire. Our jobsites range from Marco to Tampa currently. We try to stay within 2 hours of our office. Overnight travel is seldom required.
