Job Summary:
Reporting to the Health Center Manager and under the direction of the Lead Medical Assistant this position assists the medical team with organizing, scheduling, and following through with participants seen by the medical providers in the health center. Will possess strong medical terminology, be familiar with medications, taking/recording vital signs, phlebotomy, EKG, spirometry, CLIA waived tests as directed. Assists medical staff through the health center visit, maintaining associated documentation with health center visits, communicates between clinic team and day center staff as appropriate.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Escorts participants for their scheduled health center appointments, assists with treatment RN assessment and disposition as requested, and room participants for outside vendor visits.
- Obtains participant vital signs and weights for medical visits and initiates PCP visit note in EHR.
- Assists medical provider throughout the medical visit as needed. Assists clients to and from clinic rooms for appointments. Provides hands on assistance with procedures, dressing and undressing of participants and escorts them back to the waiting area or ADC.
- May assist with calls to participant’s family members to inform of next appointment or upcoming medical test/ procedure or consult. Refer any questions regarding changes in orders to the ordering provider.
- Provide back up to the Medical Coder position and ensure that clinic visits have a diagnosis associated with the visit and that the note is linked and has the correct service location.
- Assists with taking/recording vital signs, EKG, spirometry, and CLIA waived tests as directed.
- Provide back up to Lead Medical Assistant for in-house vendor clinics.
- Monitors Orders Tracking daily for Imaging and Labs processing.
- As directed by the PCP/POD, the Medical Assistant will facilitate communication with the nursing staff regarding participant follow up.
- Covers as Health Center Administrative Assistant when needed.
- Sets up clinic room for medical provider and ensures appropriate supplies available.
- Sanitize clinic rooms and equipment between appointments following “high-touch” cleaning protocols and restock exam rooms daily.
- Coordinates ordering and maintains Health Center medical supplies, biohazard pick-up and supplies.
- Ensure all open medical supplies are appropriately dated and labeled. Ensure all exam room cabinets with medical supplies are locked and not accessible to participants at any time.
- Completes monthly room checks for expired supplies, restocking, and reordering as needed.
- Performs health center medical equipment checks and ensures safety of equipment according to manufacturer’s recommendations
- Ensure the highest level of privacy by regulating the flow of participants through the health center.
- Monitor appointments to notify participants and/or caregivers of upcoming fasting lab draws ordered by their provider. Schedules all home draws for participants as needed.
- Assists participants to the health center to perform blood draws to ensure compliance with medical orders for lab tests
- Reports PT/INR results in a timely manner for the medical provider to assess the need for a medication adjustment and calls participants and/or caregivers with new dosage orders as directed.
- If MA is also a CNA, maintains CNA licensure and competencies.
- Works rotating weekends and/or holidays as assigned
- Required to work at all PACE-RI sites as necessary as well as in the community as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Education Requirement:
High School Diploma or Equivalent, Required
Completion of an Accredited Medical Assistant Program, Preferred
Physical Requirements:
Physical ability to regularly stoop, bend, kneel, lift, stand, walk, stretch and reach for extended periods of time.
Must be able to regularly lift objects up to 25 pounds and at times up to 35 pounds.
Must be able to assist a 200-250 lb participant, using proper body mechanics.
Must have hearing and vision abilities within normal range (corrected) to drive safely and/or to observe and communicate with participants.
Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises as well as related community care settings.
Must be able to tolerate conditions typically associated within a medical office and/or home care setting including potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases.
Must be able to complete assignments in variable weather conditions and ever-changing and sometimes allergenic environments in participant homes, including extreme heat, humidity, dust, smoke, pet contamination, and cleaning supplies.
Experience:
1 year of CNA or Medical Assistant experience, Preferred
Phlebotomy Certification, Preferred
1 year of experience working with a frail or elderly population, Preferred
1 year working at PACE, Preferred
Licensure & Certification Requirements:
Rhode Island Certified Nursing Assistant License (CNA), Preferred
Phlebotomy Certification, Preferred
Medical Assistant Certification, Preferred
Position Requirements:
CPR Certification
Driver's License & access to reliable transportation: community-based travel may be required.
Salary : $17 - $22
