Position Summary:

The Pre-Op Medical Assistant/C-Arm Operator provides essential pre-operative care and assists in pain management procedures by operating a C-arm x-ray machine to capture high-quality images. This role combines clinical support with technical expertise to ensure safe and efficient patient preparation and imaging, contributing to excellent patient care and effective procedural outcomes. This position is responsible for preparing patients for surgery, assisting with preoperative care, assessing patient needs, and supporting physicians and nurses by providing essential patient information and care. In this position, the incumbent will be operating a C-arm x-ray machine and will be exposed to radiation. The incumbent must be comfortable and able to wear PPE gear and stand for long periods of time. IV skills are required, and the role is part-time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for pre-operative procedures, including intake assessments, vital sign checks, and IV setups.
  • Set up and maintain treatment rooms, ensuring they are clean and organized.
  • Assist with venipuncture and IV insertions.
  • Assist in the operating room by positioning patients, preparing equipment, and ensuring patient comfort.
  • Present patients’ medical information to healthcare providers before examinations or surgery.
  • Safeguard patient information, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and secure medical records.
  • Safely escort patients to exam rooms and assist with their preoperative preparation (e.g., confirming NPO status, medication adjustments, and ensuring the presence of a driver for post-op care).
  • Monitor and maintain surgical instruments and medical equipment (e.g., medical fridge temperatures, glucometers).
  • Operate the C-arm x-ray machine during procedures, positioning equipment accurately and ensuring clear, precise imaging.
  • Perform diagnostic medical radiographic procedures with an understanding of standard radiography and fluoroscopy under the supervision of doctor.
  • Help nurses with patient recovery and discharge as needed.
  • Practices radiation safety for all patients and staff.
  • Read and perform examination from doctors’ orders.
  • Participates in any required training or certifications.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) preferred.
  • IV certification or experience with venipuncture required.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and infection control procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills and proactive problem-solving abilities.
  • Empathy toward patients, commitment to patient confidentiality, and dedication to providing high-quality care.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The position demands precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to perform repetitive movements. The work environment is typically in a clinical setting, which includes exposure to medical equipment, bodily fluids, and other potentially hazardous materials. Adherence to strict safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), is essential. The specialist may also encounter moderate noise levels and varying temperatures. The role requires resilience to high-stress situations, especially when managing patient emergencies or urgent care needs.
