Position Summary:
The Pre-Op Medical Assistant/Triage Specialist plays a dual role in both administrative and clinical tasks to ensure smooth operations within the medical office and efficient patient flow. This position is responsible for preparing patients for surgery, assisting with preoperative care, assessing patient needs, and supporting physicians and nurses by providing essential patient information and care. This position is unique in that you will be working in the ASC as needed and also working in clinic as triage when the ASC is closed. IV skills are required, and the role involves working 2-4 days (20-30 hours) a week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare patient charts for upcoming visits and surgeries, ensuring all necessary information is available.
- Conduct patient interviews to gather medical history, check vital signs, and measure weight and height.
- Set up and maintain treatment rooms, ensuring they are clean and organized.
- Collect and accurately log laboratory specimens.
- Assist with venipuncture and IV insertions.
- Present patients’ medical information to healthcare providers before examinations or surgery.
- Safeguard patient information, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and secure medical records.
- Safely escort patients to exam rooms and assist with their preoperative preparation (e.g., confirming NPO status, medication adjustments, and ensuring the presence of a driver for post-op care).
- Monitor and maintain surgical instruments and medical equipment (e.g., medical fridge temperatures, glucometers).
- Help nurses with patient recovery and discharge as needed.
- Perform triage by assessing patient symptoms, prioritizing care, and coordinating follow-up actions or referrals.
- Ensure surgical instruments are sterilized and safely handled.
- Support the medical team with any other duties as assigned.
- Travel between clinic locations, Lawrenceville and Stockbridge, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- High School Diploma or GED required; Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) preferred.
- IV certification or experience with venipuncture required.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and infection control procedures.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and proactive problem-solving abilities.
- Empathy toward patients, commitment to patient confidentiality, and dedication to providing high-quality care.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel between Lawrenceville and Stockbridge clinic locations as needed.
