What are the responsibilities and job description for the UTILITY PLANT OPERATOR APPRENTICE (Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant) position at Palm Beach County?
Semi-skilled work in the operation and maintenance of a water or wastewater Treatment Plant. Work is performed in accordance with established practices and procedures. Duties require the exercise of independent judgement. Work is performed under the direct supervision of an administrative superior who reviews work for conformance with established standards and procedures.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of six (6) months of experience in the operation/maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment similar to that utilized in treatment plant operations OR has successfully passed the 'C' level examination for Water/Wastewater Treatment Operators License OR six (6) months of experience working in water chemistry, water sampling, or working with industrial chemicals in the treatment of water/wastewater.
Necessary Special Requirement: Must agree to take and pass State examination for class "C" Operators License in Water or Wastewater Treatment within 18 months of hire.
PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE IN/WITH: Utility plant operation and/or maintenance; using computer software. Also desirable: College-level courses in an environmental/chemical discipline; successful completion or current enrollment in an approved prerequisite Water Plant Operator course recognized by Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) licensing office (must specify on application); FDEP State Water/Wastewater Operator Class A, B or C.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Respiratory screen/chest x-ray and Hearing Loss Test required for selected candidate.
