What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Lab Tech/Medical Technologist, PRN position at Palo Alto County Health System?
PACHS is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital located in Emmetsburg, Iowa. There are 12 providers that provide services in the hospital and at our three Rural Health Clinics.
The laboratory personnel are all generalists and are required to perform phlebotomy, patient testing, and proficiency testing in all areas. The laboratory provides services to outpatients, inpatients, obstetrics, emergency department, attached long-term care facility, attached clinic and provides reference lab services for two off-site clinics along with three different nursing home facilities.
Job Summary:
Collects specimens for laboratory testing, performs computer data entry and performs lab tests. Collects blood specimens from all ages of patients. Verifies test results using knowledge of quality control rules, quality assurance principals, and instrumentation checks. Reports patient results as related to the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Blood Banking, and Microbiology. Shares call, weekends and holiday coverage. Education/Requirements/Knowledge/Skills:
- High school diploma or GED
- Graduate of an approved medical laboratory program as Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Technician
- Hospital Lab Tech experience preferred.
- ASCP or NCA certification is preferred.
- Strong customer service, organizational, and multi-tasking skills a must.
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
- Must be able to respond to the facility within 15 minutes when on call or be willing to stay on hospital premises when taking call.
- Must be extremely detail-oriented, high level of time management skills, workflow prioritization, team player and able to adapt quickly to changing environment
