THE POSITION

PASADENA HUMANE is currently hiring Heath Technicians with experience and certifications in animal behavior (IAABC, KPA or CPDT-KA) in our Veterinary Health Department.

We are looking for professionals who learn quickly, have strong interpersonal skills and feel passionate about our mission.

We care for all the pet animals and wildlife entering our shelter. As a Health Technician that specializes in behavior you will partner with veterinarians to address the husbandry, medical and behavioral needs of each animal on its journey to a forever home. You will support the veterinarians in treating behavioral concerns, lowering fear, anxiety, and stress and maximizing opportunities for placement. In addition to partnering with veterinarians, Health Technicians work with multiple other teams, including animal control officers, customer care associates (in adoptions, the animal resource center, the SNiP clinic), and volunteer services, to ensure that animals become available for placement as expediently as possible.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for individuals who are comfortable and have at least 2 years experience working directly with animals in a medical and shelter environment.

You should be a master of organization, comfortable on a learning curve, able to elicit cooperation and offer tangible contributions. You should thrive in a work environment where the pace and tasks change daily and collaboration brings the best results. If you have a behavior certification from CCPDT, IAABC or the Karen Pryor Academy we can help continue to develop your career and apply your skills to a wide range of shelter animals through behavior modification, enrichment plans and shelter playgroup programs.

We are looking for someone who has confidence and experience in handling dogs safely and with defensive handling skills when needed. Our ideal candidate should be experienced in Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive (LIMA) training methods and enrichment plans for shelter animals. Being successful in this position will require a fluent knowledge of behaviors that may lead to aggression.
