This is a full time position with an opportunity to work SOME of the required hours remotely.  The work to be done remotely must be negotiated with hiring manager/supervisor.

 

TITLE: SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (SLP)                                         

DEPARTMENT: Special Services

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Arizona Dept. of Education Speech Language Pathologist Certificate.
  2. Valid Arizona Dept. of Health Services Speech Language Pathologist License.
  3. Master's or more advanced degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders from an accredited university. 
  4. Must possess a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  5. Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

JOB GOALS: 

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of students with speech or language disorders, and to formulate and implement individualized treatment programs, keep appropriate records, and inform faculty and parents regarding students' progress.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following tasks are essential for this position.  This list is not inclusive of all responsibilities.  Individuals may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed.

  1. Complies with all HIPAA and FERPA related confidentiality requirements.
  2. Develops positive relations with students, parents, school staff and the public.
  3. Assesses needs of pupils with speech or language disorders and matches their needs with programs available through the educational system.
  4. Participates as a member of the IEP team to establish and monitor appropriate student goals and objectives.
  5. Meets with students regularly according to IEP requirements.  Evaluates and maintains records of students' progress on a regular basis and makes program adjustments as needed.
  6. Communicates to faculty members on a regular basis to discuss students' strengths and weaknesses in class performance and social interaction.
  7. Meets with parents regularly and reports on student progress.  Suggests activities that supplement the student's speech therapy program. Attempts to enhance parents’ understanding of the program and answer questions or concerns as needed.
  8. Keeps current with professional literature and attends seminars on a regular basis to maintain and update professional skills.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

  1. District policies, operations and organization.
  2. Interpersonal skills including tact, courtesy and diplomacy.
  3. Communication (telephone, email, etc.) etiquette.
  4. Educational theories and practices.
  5. Federal and state laws, rules and regulations governing education.
  6. Knowledge of FERPA and HIPAA.
  7. Promoting positive public relations.
  8. Technology in the educational context.
  9. Crisis management procedures.

Skill and Ability to:

  1. Work cooperatively with others.
  2. Utilize engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
  3. Implement educational policies and procedures.
  4. Make group presentations.
  5. Analyze and problem solve.
  6. Provide excellent customer service.
  7. Interpret and analyze assessment data.

  1. Sit for extended periods of time.
  2. Enter data into a computer terminal, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone.
  3. See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids.
  4. Hear well enough to evaluate students’ speech.
  5. Occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Special Services in accordance with the provisions of Governing Board policy in evaluation of certified personnel.

 

TERMS OF 

EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months (205 Days)

 

SALARY:  Salary for the position is set according to the Related Services Salary Schedule determined by the Governing Board.
