Concrete Truck Driver II drives commercial vehicles equipped to transport a variety of materials from the job site to the yard as well as assists the crew. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A required. This includes safe and efficient transportation of concrete from batching plants to various construction sites. This position requires a unique blend of skills, including the operation of heavy vehicles under diverse road conditions and the ability to coordinate closely with dispatch and construction site teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery. Maintaining the concrete’s quality during transit by managing its consistency is also a fundamental aspect of the job. The driver is responsible for the basic maintenance and cleanliness of the mixer truck, ensuring it remains in good working condition for daily operations. The Concrete Truck Driver plays an essential role in the smooth execution of construction projects by delivering a fundamental building material where and when it is needed.

Pay Rate: $23.00 - $33.00 per hour DOE

Essential Functions:

Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Operate a concrete mixer truck to transport concrete from the plant to the construction site, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Inspect the mixer truck before and after each trip, checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and ensuring the vehicle is in good working condition to maintain safety and compliance with regulations.
  • Mix concrete on site, mixing exactly what is needed to prevent extra materials to haul off for dump.
  • Clean the mixer drum and chutes after each delivery to prevent concrete from hardening and to maintain the equipment’s condition and efficiency.
  • Communicate with dispatch and construction site managers to confirm delivery details, adjust schedules as necessary, and resolve any on-site issues promptly.
  • Maneuver and position the mixer truck at the construction site to facilitate the direct pouring of concrete or to fill concrete pumps or buckets, ensuring minimal disruption to the site. Performs loading and unloading duties.
  • Adjust the speed of the drum rotation to mix the concrete in route to the site or to prevent separation of ingredients, ensuring the delivery of quality product.
  • Complete delivery tickets and other required documentation accurately and timely, recording details such as quantity delivered, delivery location, and time of delivery.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks on the mixer truck, such as lubricating parts or replacing small components, to ensure the vehicle remains operational and reduces downtime.
  • Assists crew leader in construction, reconstruction and maintenance work.
  • Assists equipment operators by swamping, hand digging and locating underground obstructions
  • Works with specialized equipment including jackhammers, rotary drills, power actuated fasteners and other industry tools
  • Signals equipment operators
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.  

  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift
  • Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
  • Vehicle Inspection: Drivers conduct thorough checks on fluid levels, tire pressure, and the functionality of brakes and lights to ensure the concrete mixer truck is ready for operation. Regular inspections comply with safety regulations and prevent breakdowns, keeping the concrete mix in good condition during transport.
  • Route Planning: Identifying the most efficient routes to construction sites is critical for timely concrete delivery. Knowledge of local roads, traffic patterns, and site accessibility helps avoid delays, preserving the concrete mix’s integrity.
  • Time Management: Coordinating deliveries to ensure concrete reaches construction sites at the right time requires effective scheduling and route optimization. This skill helps drivers manage unexpected delays and maintain productivity, keeping project timelines on track.
  • Safety Compliance: Drivers must adhere to health and safety regulations, conducting regular vehicle inspections to prevent accidents and injuries. Familiarity with operational protocols, emergency response procedures, and clear communication of safety concerns are essential for maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Customer Service: Positive interactions and clear communication with clients ensure timely, accurate deliveries and address any on-site concerns or adjustments. Building good relationships with site managers and crew members can secure repeat business and enhance professional reputation.
  • Operates within a dynamic environment, primarily outdoors, navigating through various construction sites. The workspace is predominantly the cab of the truck, equipped with controls for mixing and pouring concrete. This role demands physical stamina for handling equipment and manual labor.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers
  • Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
  • English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports 
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional skills.  

Experience and Education: 

  • One (1 ) plus years’ experience operating volumetric truck required.
  • A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A required.
  • Tanker endorsement required
  • Prior crew coordination experience is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis.
  • Possession of a valid State Driver’s License is required.
  • Candidates must pass Motor Vehicle Record (MVR check, a Department of Transportation (DOT) regulated physical as a requirement of the job and pass a pre-employment drug screen. 

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications: 

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
