Summary:
The Gifted Education Coordinator will oversee the development and implementation of educational programs tailored to the needs of gifted students, including those with dual identification as gifted and special education. The coordinator will ensure compliance with state and federal laws while providing direct support, leadership, and guidance to school personnel. This role requires collaboration across various divisions, departments, and external partners to design and deliver specialized instructional strategies and services.
The coordinator will focus on delivering equitable access to gifted education resources, monitoring program effectiveness, and providing training and professional development to staff. Additionally, the position entails ensuring that the needs of gifted students are met in conjunction with core academic standards and appropriate instructional services while remaining compliant with the mandates of the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).
Essential Duties:
- Coordinate and monitor all programs for gifted and talented students, including those with dual identification.
- Caseload monitoring and evaluation coordination of students.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including Act 55 of 2024 and related gifted education mandates.
- Collaborate with the Supervisor of Special Education to align gifted education programs with school-wide objectives.
- Support leadership in designing and implementing specialized instructional strategies and resources for gifted students.
- Plan and lead professional development sessions focused on gifted education.
- Oversee the equitable deployment of related service resources (e.g., speech, hearing, vision) for gifted students as necessary.
- Track GIEPs for compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Manage the uploading and review of GIEPs in the designated school systems.
- Act as a consultative resource to school teams and principals on best practices for serving gifted students.
- Work with school teams to write and implement individualized Gifted Individualized Education Programs (GIEPs) and other supports.
- Provide technical assistance to school staff to enhance their capacity to meet the unique academic and emotional needs of gifted learners.
- Ensure adherence to PDE guidelines and mandates, including compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) where applicable.
- Support the Supervisor of Special Education in managing data, monitoring program efficacy, and submitting required reports.
- Manage service contracts and partnerships with external agencies providing gifted services or evaluations.
- Foster partnerships with public and private organizations to support gifted education programs.
- Serve as a liaison between internal departments and external stakeholders, including families, to ensure alignment in support of gifted students.
- Design and deliver professional development activities for school staff, focusing on instructional methods, progress monitoring, and the integration of gifted programs into the general education curriculum.
- Participate in state-offered training by PDE and conferences to stay informed of the latest research and trends in gifted education.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough understanding of the development and needs of gifted children.
- Special Education Certification preferred
- Gifted Endorsement preferred. If the candidate does not have a gifted endorsement, there is an expectation that it would be completed within three years.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws governing gifted education, including GIEP processes.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Ability to plan and execute training programs for school staff.
- Experience in data analysis, program evaluation, and reporting.
- Proven ability to work with diverse populations and stakeholders.
