Job Purpose:
This position will support the facilities department in ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of the Cheswick building, and the safety and security of all employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
General building maintenance and custodial tasks including, but not limited to:
- Clean, sweep and vacuum all carpet, surfaces, bathrooms, & flooring daily
- Maintains cleanliness of common areas (office, break and kitchen, etc) throughout the workday and in a proactive manner as observed or as requests for attention are reported
- Place trash and recycling in appropriate container daily
- Reviews and maintains supply levels of hand soap, paper towels and toilet tissue dispensers on a daily basis
- Responsible for shipping and receiving duties and transporting received packages and supplies to required storage or usage locations within the facility and also breaking down shipping materials (boxes) and placing with appropriate trash and/or recycling containers
- While snow removal is contracted by a snow removal company, this position will monitor exterior walkways and remove additional snow as needed throughout the work day
- Move furniture, as needed
- Hang pictures or other fixtures on walls as requested
- Replace light bulbs
- Responsible for janitorial supplies inventory and communication with PALCS office manager for purchasing of supplies as needed
- Repair and change locks
- Minor carpentry
- Minor cubicle reconfiguring
- Minor furniture repair
- Painting
- Provide event set up and clean up
- Ability to respond to facilities emergency calls after hours as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Advanced tasks include:
- In coordination with the Office Manager, will meet contractors and/or repair personnel to allow access to facilities as needed and will act as an intermediary in reporting and/or supporting needed repairs to the PALCS Office Manager and/or their assigned facilities Supervisor
- Monitor building systems (Lighting, HVAC, Plumbing, Etc) and report any issues or repair needs to PALCS Office Manager and/or their assigned facilities Supervisor
- Minor electrical repairs (if qualified)
- Minor plumbing repairs
- Supporting school security reviews as they relate to facilities preparedness (non enforcement)
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrate ability to follow established policies and procedures
- Able to work independently
- Reliable in working without close supervision
- Must have a valid PA Drivers License and a clean driving record
- Capable of being active all day and able to climb ladders
- While scheduled hours will be 10-6 Monday-Friday, ability to work mornings, additional evening hours and occasional weekend hours as situations require
- Committed to doing tasks above and beyond expectations
- Current (dated within a year) Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances
Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:
- Physical: Normal vision, speech, hearing, walking, sitting, standing, lifting, stooping, bending, grasping, keyboarding, and filing ability. Ability to lift 60lbs, climb stairs, work on ladders and other equipment that would elevate an individual off the ground. Work in both outside and inside environments with potential unconditioned air control.
- Mental: Positive attitude, system analyzing, problem solving, and status writing.
- Environmental: Online, office, blended school environment
- Travel: May be required to travel locally for supplies as situations require and may be required to travel to West Chester, PA on a very limited basis. Travel reimbursement and accommodations would be provided as outlined within the PALCS employee handbook.
