What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Pharmacy Technician position at Permian Regional Medical Center?
Position Description:
Works under the direct supervision of the pharmacist. Performs training for new employees and in-service for current employees in an area of specialization or expertise. Coordinates with pharmacists and nursing personnel to ensure patient’s medication regimen is accurate. Stocks medication dispensing and IV preparation areas and assists with inventory control activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current registration with the Texas Board of Pharmacy as pharmacy technician. Three years experience as pharmacy technician in an acute care hospital is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of the processes and procedures utilized to prepare and dispense IV/sterile solutions and other pharmaceutical supplies. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing: ability to follow procedures and instructions and to function independently; ability to complete tasks in a timely manner; ability to adapt to changing workloads and job assignments. Skill in interpersonal communications and relations; ability to communicate with patients according to their specific age.
Those pharmacy technicians that hold a current and active Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license may perform skills and interventions within the scope of practice for LVN’s in the state of Texas.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend, identify colors, effective hearing, see, write, count, read, speak, communicate in English, alphabetize, and perceive depth.
Project a positive and caring attitude while cooperating with departments, co-workers, patients, physicians, visitors and guests. Respect for human dignity and patient rights. Maintain the operation of PRMC in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Adhere to policy and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook. Responsible for adhering to current patient privacy practices and minimal disclosure policies. Must be able to handle constructive criticism and position specific coaching/training.
Mental demands include: alertness, analytic ability, memory, concentration, judgement, initiative, precision, and communication.
Minimum 2 years experience. Must be licensed in Texas.
