Job Overview

The PETA Foundation's Captive Animal Law Enforcement (CALE) division is actively seeking a licensed veterinarian with specialized experience in captive wildlife. Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary team, including legal experts, veterinarians, and wildlife specialists, dedicated to eradicating the exploitation of wild animals in roadside zoos, circuses, and other traveling exhibitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and provide expert advice on specific cases of animal abuse and neglect involving captive facilities.
  • Travel as necessary to assess the welfare conditions of at-risk animals in various captive environments.
  • Recommend ethical improvements and enhancements to care practices for captive animals based on veterinary standards.
  • Conduct research and prepare materials to support PETA’s advocacy campaigns for wild and exotic animals.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with veterinary professionals, animal welfare advocates, sanctuaries, and government entities to coordinate efforts in specific cases and legislative initiatives.
  • Strategize and implement plans to mobilize PETA members and activists to address issues affecting captive animals through outreach to elected officials and businesses.
  • Monitor and support legislative initiatives aimed at improving conditions for captive wildlife and provide feedback on relevant legislative topics.
  • Represent PETA’s stance to the media and maintain confidentiality in all dealings.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.

Required Skills

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • In-depth knowledge of veterinary and welfare issues pertaining to captive animals.
  • Exceptional writing and research capabilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and professional communication skills.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently and prioritize effectively.
  • Professional demeanor and experience in public speaking.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Commitment to PETA's mission and the ability to advocate for animal rights effectively.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of driving experience, with a valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster is required.
