SUMMARY
The PMHC Health Summer Nurse Internship program is an opportunity for future RNs to get invaluable hands-on experience under the guidance of a nurse preceptor. Participants will not only expand theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, but also earn market-leading competitive pay. The Student extern is under the supervision of the Preceptor Nurse. Based on the needs of the department, responsibilities are a combination of providing direct patient care and technical assistance to the nurse and performing a variety of computer, clerical, scheduling, and supply functions as necessary for the operation of the unit. Compliance with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state and local laws as well as PMHC policies is a condition of employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The student intern cares for patients with a variety of needs ranging from neonates to geriatrics at various developmental levels. Patients are from both traditional and nontraditional family structures with a variety of sociocultural and educational backgrounds.
Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse Preceptor, interns will have the following responsibilities:
- Contribute to the assessment of health status of individuals. This will include interactions with family members or group members.
- Contribute to establishment of nursing diagnoses which identify the needs of the patient.
- Respond to patient calls, anticipate patient needs, and assure patient safety and comfort through hourly rounding, environmental maintenance and other appropriate safety measures.
- Contribute in the development of the plan of care for individuals.
- Perform and work to ensure safe, knowledgeable, and age-specific patient care.
- Make entries in the medical record, consistent with and limited to scope of job duties and applicable licensure.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Directly responsible to the Director of Inpatient Nursing/ Director of Surgical Services.

While performing the duties of this job, employees the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- Enrollment in an accredited nursing program with projected graduation dates between December 2025 and summer 2026
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association upon hire
- Current CNA listing on the Nurse Aide Registry, of the state in which you work, upon hire.
- Minimum Cumulative GPA - 3.0
- Some exposure to clinical rotations before hire.
