GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Director of Music provides leadership and direction of all Philadelphia Presbyterian Church Music Programs, including traditional and contemporary music groups. The Director of Music works closely with the Pastor and Head of Staff to coordinate music for all worship services. The Director of Music must view the music ministry as an opportunity to experience community and to bring glory to God as our members share their spiritual gifts through music. The Director of Music shall support and encourage all musicians and worship teams at PPC.
The Director of Music reports to the Head of Staff
BASIC DUTIES
● Work closely with Pastor Team to plan and create cohesive music experience during worship services.
● Develop, rehearse and coordinate with all church music groups, including, but not limited to Sanctuary Choir, Adult Bell Choir and Praise Team.
● Oversees Children’s Choir director and schedules worship service participation to encourage the overall success of the program.
● Work with head of staff or pastoral designee in selection of music for worship experiences. Communicate music selections in a timely manner.
● Direct all music groups to support and facilitate congregational singing/worship experience.
● Assists in developing music programs and proposing annual budget in coordination with Worship and Music Ministry Team.
● Assist in evaluating and managing equipment/instruments/technical needs for music teams.
● Attends Worship and Music meetings as requested.
● The Director of Music will work with the staff as a colleague and team member supporting the overall programs of the church.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in music, church music or other related degree or commensurate experience
- Experience in choral conducting and praise team leadership
- Demonstrate knowledge or a willingness to learn Presbyterian Theology and its proper expression in worship
- Demonstrate willingness to carry out responsibilities and job functions according to the theology of worship established by pastoral staff
- Only non PPC members can apply for this position
HOURS
This is a part time salaried employee position, approximately 20-25 hours per week. The details of the weekly work schedule shall be determined in consultation with the Head of Staff.
The Director of Music is allowed four Sundays off per calendar year. The Director of Music is expected to be present during special services such as Homecoming, Christmas Eve, Good Friday, and Easter, barring unforeseen absence due to illness. Any scheduled time off should be communicated and agreed to by Head of Staff.
