Description:
The Associate Athletic Trainer is a member of the Piedmont University Athletic Department reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Possible Sport Assignments: Baseball, Softball, Women’s Soccer, Men’s Basketball, Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, and Cross Country.
- Provide prevention, treatment, evaluation and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
- Provide practice/game coverage for all intercollegiate sports.
- Makes medical referrals for student-athletes injured as a result of athletic competition.
- Provides rehabilitation services for student-athletes under the supervision of the appropriate
- physician.
- Oversees all aspects of the Weather Tracking System including setup and training for all athletic department staff.
- Monitors weather conditions and makes recommendations based upon student athlete welfare.
- Oversees Hardship Waiver Process.
- Attends professional meetings, clinics, and workshops as appropriate.
- Maintains proper medical records of treatment.
- Administers all preseason baseline concussion tests to appropriate student athletes.
- Compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required in this position.
- The Associate Athletic Trainer also provides support in the following areas:
- Preparing and maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment in the Athletic Training Room;
- Implementing the Drug Testing Program for student-athletes;
- Assisting Head Athletic Trainer with Secondary Insurance Claims Process for injured athletes;
- Acts as a preceptor for students in the Athletic Training Master's program
- The Assistant Athletic Trainer accepts other duties, as assigned, to insure the successful operation of athletic department activities.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- On-site work is required.
- Incumbents must remain relevant in the area of employment and flexible to changes in work related to institutional needs.
Typical Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training or Master’s Degree in Athletic Trainer from CAATE Accredited Athletic Training Program
- Preferred 2 to 3 years of experience.
Licenses and Certification
- BOC Certified
- State of Georgia Licensed or Eligible
- Must be CPR / AED / First Aid Certified
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License (or obtained within 30 days of hire date) and satisfactory MVR.

Environmental, Physical, and Visual Acuity Factors
- Essential functions of this position requires one to work in both inside and outside environmental conditions. Individuals could be exposed to extreme heat (high temperature and humidity) and extreme cold (temperatures below freezing). Additionally, could be subject to noise levels causing one to shout to be heard above the ambient noise level.
- Individual duties will require a medium level of work where they will exert up to 50lbs of force occasionally, 20lbs of force frequently, and/or 10lbs of force constantly to move objects. Essential functions require incumbents to: climb to ascend stairs, ladders, and/or hills; balance to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling; stoop by bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist; kneel; crouch; crawl; reach; stand; walking; push and pull; lift; use fingering and grasping; feel; talk to exchange ideas; hear at normal speaking levels; and make repetitive motions.
- Visual acuity is required to allow incumbents to operate motor vehicles.
