Job Description:

Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia – principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. Our scenic campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. We are one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).

Working Title: Cashier

Job Type: Full-time (salaried, non-exempt)

Purpose: To ensure that all funds received by the college are properly recorded and deposited in accordance with state guidelines. To handle student payments and payment plans. To provide excellent customer service to students and the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assures all monies received are in accordance with procedures and guidelines established by the college and the State Comptroller’s Office.
Deposits all funds to appropriate accounts and assures deposits are made on a daily basis.
Assures that all accounts are collected according to CAPP guidelines.
Assists with follow-up on outstanding obligations owed to the college.
Assists students in applying for Nelnet payment plan and processing changes as needed.
Assures that all accounting transactions are keyed accurately into AIS
Provides training of other business office employees in the various functions of the cashier’s office in order that proper coverage is maintained.
Assists in other office operations as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to apply and adapt accounting principles
Demonstrated knowledge of spreadsheet applications and accounting software
Ability to work independently
Ability to train and provide direction
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experienced provider of customer service

Preferred Qualifications:
Post-secondary education or training
