PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Skilled Laborer is responsible for completing project tasks as assigned by the Construction Superintendent and, on occasion, the Director of Maintenance. Assigned tasks may include operation of the construction elevator, assisting the Finish Carpenter, installation of floor protection, moving of construction materials, cleanup of construction debris, and other miscellaneous items related to renovation work; to work individually and as a team member, with limited instruction and supervision.
SCHEDULE
The usual work hours for this position are weekdays, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, but will, on occasion, include some evening and weekend hours, working more than eight hours in a day and working at a time not previously scheduled.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Execute and complete assigned project tasks in a timely manner.
2. Ensure quality workmanship in all work.
3. Maintain cleanliness in all work and break areas.
4. Keep all equipment in good working condition.
5. Work safely and comply at all times with Plymouth Harbor’s safety standards.
6. Work individually, and as a team member to provide support and assistance to all fellow Construction and Maintenance Department staff.
7. Be observant and notify the Construction Superintendent of any maintenance or construction issues that need to be addressed.
8. Request required materials, supplies, and equipment in a timely manner so as to not impede the progress of the work.
9. Assist the Construction Superintendent in escorting vendors and subcontractors to designated work areas.
10. Deposit work debris in the appropriate dumpsters.
11. Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, and mandatory in-services as approved or required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five years minimum experience as a construction skilled laborer.
- Experience as a carpenter’s helper preferred.
- Must be a detail-oriented person and able to perform duties with great accuracy on a daily basis.
- Must have excellent personal skills, demonstrating the ability to conduct oneself in a non-controversial style; a style that inspires the respect of others and promotes a sense of trust in the individual’s competence.
- Highly skilled in using basic hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Able to read and comprehend work orders and printed instructions.
- Able to document work assignments completed.
- Able to use good judgement and common sense on a consistent basis.
- Must have good communication skills; speaking, writing, and listening.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.

- Must be able to sit, stand, walk and move throughout the workday (lifting, carrying, bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, twisting) using good body mechanics.
- Must be able to lift/push up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Must be able to cope with the physical and emotional demands of the position.
