CUSTODIAN 180 Day FloaterQUALIFICATIONS: 1. Experience in the custodial trade preferred.2. Knowledgeable of building infrastructure in particular boilers and/or heating, ventilation and air conditioning units, and fire alarm and sprinkler systems with appropriate district provided training.3. Ability to assume custodial job related duties required of a physically demanding job.4.

Certification of good health signed by a medical professional in order to be appointed. Any further medical review as appropriate through a school appointed physician.5. Ability to pass any required or mandated trainings provided by the employer such as OSHA requirements needed to perform any job related responsibility.6. A sense of humor and a proven ability to work in a polite and friendly manner with all staff members, students, and with the larger educational community.7.

Knowledge of SchoolDude work order computer system preferred with appropriate district provided training.8. Such job related alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Department may find appropriate and acceptable.REPORTS TO: Head Custodian, Director of Facilities, and the Building Principal and/or his/her designee.JOB GOALS: 1. To provide students/ staff with a safe, comfortable and functional environment in which to learn, play and develop.2. To aid in the cleaning, maintenance, repair and upkeep programs of the buildings and grounds on a daily basis and the ability to adapt to changing technologies with appropriate training provided.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to): 1.

Ensures routine cleanliness, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting for all building needs during a particular shift.2. May perform routine manual labor associated with cleaning and maintaining buildings and grounds including, but not limited to, washing, waxing, stripping and refinishing floors, cleaning windows, furniture, walls and fixtures.3. Exhibits considerable knowledge of hand and power tools, materials, methods and standard practices used in the custodial and maintenance trade, and the maintenance and upkeep thereof.4. Ensures that all sidewalks, driveways, entry areas and play areas are clean, neat, safe and free of any debris.5.

Performs work requiring climbing on ladders (to a maximum height of 20 feet), scaffolding and extended aerial lifts as appropriate, and with the necessary certifications and/or licenses.6. Aids in the operation and maintenance of building systems such as boilers, HVAC units, plumbing and electrical systems, and fire alarm and sprinkler systems with district provided training.7. Ensures the maintenance of assigned equipment and a safe, clean assigned work area.8. Demonstrate a working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.9.

Communicates effectively with the appropriate stakeholders.10. Ability to work with the following physical and environmental demands described below, which are required to perform the essential functions of the job.a. Physical: Requires periods of physical activity requiring the ability to stand for long periods, walking, climbing, bending, crawling. The ability to lift, carry and position objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.

The ability to make swift and responsible decisions in emergency or hazardous situations. The employee must be able to communicate both through speech and hearing. The employee must have the ability to use hands and arms in order to safely operate equipment and perform the required tasks. The employee must have good vision either normally or corrected.b.

Environmental: Frequent periods of outside work in all extremes of weather. Interior work where the employee may be exposed to loud noise, extremes of heat and cold, and the use of various chemicals, some of which may be hazardous and require special handling. Work must be done within the confines of OSHA and Massachusetts General Laws pertaining to chemical usage. The employee may be required to work on ladders, scaffolding or aerial lifts as well as work in confined spaces.

The appropriate training will be provided by the employer. Certification after training is the responsibility of the employee.11. Performs such other job related duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be designated by the Principal, Director of Facilities, and/or his designee.The above statements are intended to be in compliance with OSHA, Department of Public Safety, and Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.
