About the Job: The Purchasing Agent/Buyer is responsible for purchasing raw materials, products, and supplies while ensuring the highest quality and best prices for the materials purchased. The Purchasing Agent works under the direction of the General Manager. This individual must be professional, detail oriented, organized and able to multi-task, meet deadlines and work well in a fast paced, high- growth office environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Procurement of designated materials to reduce the cost of goods & services while ensuring uninterrupted supply
- Communicate and determine scheduling with suppliers for pricing, order fulfillment and delivery
- Resolve issues related to quality, cost, delivery
- Monitor inventory
- Prepare, maintain, and review purchasing files, reports and price lists
- Review and evaluates quotation. Research, identify and recommend potential suppliers
- Prepare purchase orders within authorized limits and schedules deliveries. Follows up on orders
- Record ordering information, issue purchase orders to suppliers and departments originating requests, and comply with purchasing procedures. Maintain records.
- Process special orders, cancel orders and coordinate the management of purchase orders
- Check shipments when they arrive to ensure that orders have been filled correctly and that goods meet specifications
- Arrange for delivery, assembly, or distribution of supplies or parts to expedite flow of materials and meet production schedules.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports (revenues, buying expenditures etc.)
- Interact with internal "customers" to identify and implement cost reduction opportunities
- Provide purchasing support to all functional areas, ensuring Purchasing representation and participation in all issues related to meeting business requirements
- Job duties or tasks may be changed or updated as necessary to facilitate company goals and expectations
Skills and Competencies:
- Experience in sourcing strategy development
- Negotiating/Influencing skills
- Financial analysis skills
- Proven ability to plan, organize and manage multiple priorities
- Problem solving; able to identify key issues and effectively achieve resolution
- Must be proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Sage 100, ERP/MRP systems
- Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational and people skills
- Must have a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to multitask and adapt to a rapidly changing business environment
- Ability and initiative to work independently, prioritize workload and manage time effectively
- Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events
- Effective and advanced communication skills
Minimum Education and Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 3 years purchasing experience in manufacturing environment required.
