Position Summary
The Powder Haven Winter Outdoor Adventures Guide assists with the daily operations of the Youth & Outdoor Adventures Department including Nordic Skiing, Snowshoeing, Fat Tire Biking, Ice Climbing, Nordic Equipment Rentals and more. The Outdoor Adventures Guide also assists with winter trail maintenance for our on-site trails.

Job Performance Expectations
- Facilitate Outdoor Adventure Activities & Events for participants of all ages, ability level, and background.
- Maintain high standards for safety and risk management in both front and back country programs.
- Inspect and maintain rental Nordic, Snowshoe, Fat Tire and other winter equipment.
- Be able to operate independently with minimal supervision in high-risk situations.
- Be able to effectively guide and instruct winter programs in high elevation, mountainous terrain.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge on outdoor technical skills, safety practices and local ecology to elevate member experiences on trips & tours.
- Be able to create positive member experiences through effective communication, confidence in programming and approachability.
- Provide basic instruction for Outdoor Technical Skills ranging from Nordic Skiing, Ice Climbing, Snowshoeing, fat tire biking, and more.
- Guide and instruct groups and individuals on nordic and snowshoe trails.
- Support trail maintenance initiatives on-site for clearing trails, installing new signage and packing in snowshoe trails for membership.
- Assist in the rental program and ensure proper maintenance of program equipment. This includes winter nordic and snowshoe equipment, biathlon equipment, backcountry ski gear, ice climbing equipment, and other various winter outdoor equipment.
- Must be able to work outside normal operating hours for early morning and late evening tours.
- Maintain industry standards for safety, risk management and emergency action specific to outdoor activities.
- Ability to coordinate with other departments.
- Deliver food, stock and maintain amenities in off-grid warming huts on the Nordic trail system.
- Support in trail maintenance and sign installation for our on-site trail system
- This includes handling power tools such as chainsaws, drills and various hand tools
- This also includes driving snowmobiles, side by sides, dirt bikes and ATV’s as needed to remote areas of the property
- High Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred
- Experience working as a guide for naturalist excursions and/or technical adventures preferred, specifically nordic skiing, biathlon and snowshoeing trips.
- Knowledge of the local ecosystem is preferred.
- Willingness to develop technical and soft skills in Outdoor Adventures required.
- Current First Aid/AED/CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Fluency in English.
- Highly organized and flexible.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and relate to people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Self-starter; able to carry out diverse duties with minimal supervision.
- Ability to contribute to the development of new Outdoor Adventure Programming and standards.
- Knowledge of hotel, resort and/or club operations preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Computer literate in Google applications.
- WFA/WFR Preferred
- Nordic Experience preferred
- While performing the duties of the job, the Outdoor Adventure Guide is required to be physically active for up to 8 hours a day
- Must regularly lift and or move up to 50 pounds and sometimes lift and/or move up to 60 pounds
- this individual will need to participate and supervise physical and active sports and games with children and adults
- Walk on even/uneven/slippery terrain
- Climb/descend stairs, uneven surfaces
