MARINE CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT
R.E. Staite is a small business, heavy civil general engineering contractor, with its facilities located in San Diego, California. For over 80 years, R.E. Staite has specialized in marine and heavy construction, piers, wharfs, marinas, deep pile foundations, bridge construction and dredging, successfully completing projects along the western seaboard from Panama to Alaska. R.E. Staite performs a high percentage of projects with its own forces and specialty equipment.
R.E. Staite is seeking a full time Marine Construction Superintendent with experience in:
- Barge Handling
- Pile Driving
- Dredging
- Concrete Placement
- Formwork
- Bulkhead Repair & Construction
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project team to ensure proper coordination & arrival of equipment to job site, manage crew, crane barge and equipment logistics
- Participate in the management of daily operational issues, including long-term planning and resource coordination, identifying and improving procedures, project staffing and ongoing project support
- Responsible for coordinating work and construction crews to ensure project meets specifications outlined in the statement of work, and other contract documents
- Understand the scope of work for each subcontractor performing work on the project
- Responsible for meeting project milestones and deadlines, maintaining an accurate schedule in conjunction with the project manager
- Ensure proper maintenance of tools and jobsite cleanliness
- Development of hazard analysis for projects
- Review of safe work practices with labor force prior to project commencement
- Holding and documenting daily safety meetings with crew
- Performing routine safety inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA
- Accident investigation and reporting
- Maintain a daily log
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 5 years as a Superintendent, marine industry strongly preferred
- Prioritize safety and awareness at jobsite
- Knowledge of construction and engineering principles and practices
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and permits
- Advanced knowledge of construction scheduling and cost control
- Ability to lead and supervise large groups
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, clients, and the general public at all times
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking and decision-making ability
- Mathematical skills including weights and measures conversions
- Excellent communication skills – oral and written
- Computer skills
- Must be able to regularly sit, stand, walk in varying and uneven terrain; occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds
- Must be willing to work odd hours on occasion, outside of normal working hours, including nights and weekends.
- Must have a valid U.S. driver's license, pass a drug test, and be able to pass a federal background investigation
