Our pharmaceutical client is seeking a skilled Automation Controls Specialist to support their sterile clinical manufacturing operations. The environment focuses on fill/finish processes, including oral solid dosages, sterile-filled syringes, vials, and vaccines. The facility utilizes automation equipment such as lyophilizers, parts washers, and robotics, all of which are PLC-based. The specialist will be responsible for learning the existing automation systems, troubleshooting, implementing changes, identifying issues, and ensuring all activities comply with regulatory requirements.
Key Requirements:
- Expertise in PLC and HMI applications: Proficient with platforms such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, and/or Inductive Automation. Hands-on experience with RSLogix, FactoryTalk ME/SE, RSLinx, TIA Portal, WinCC OA, and Ignition.
- Programming skills: Proficiency in Python or similar programming languages, with a deep understanding of PLCs and SCADA systems.
- OPC application knowledge: Ability to configure OPC applications like Kepware server to integrate automation systems.
- Networking proficiency: Familiarity with TCP/IP addressing, network ports, and server management.
- Experience with server environments: Competence in setting up and maintaining Windows servers and VMware systems.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, read, and write ladder logic programs for automation systems, leveraging PLC & HMI applications.
- Configure and maintain automation system networks.
- Prepare and update equipment change control documentation and ensure proper approvals.
- Maintain detailed documentation for automation changes, operations, and maintenance activities.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues, conduct root cause analysis, and resolve any discrepancies.
- Review and maintain backups of automation systems (PLC, HMI, Python, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with SDLC documentation and regulatory standards.
- Conduct incident reviews and provide solutions for moving forward.
Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of automation engineering experience, ideally within the pharmaceutical industry, though candidates from medical devices, oil and gas, or automotive industries will also be considered.
- Strong leadership, flexibility, and energy to thrive in a dynamic environment.
Education: While experience is the most important factor, candidates who demonstrate flexibility and leadership qualities will stand out.
