Summary:

The Branch Manager I is responsible for the overall management of daily branch operations, customer relationship building, service and portfolio growth of the branch with total loans and deposits of $15 million or less. This position provides leadership and training, promotes a sales and service culture through coaching, guidance and staff motivation. The Branch Manager I ensures delivery of quality customer service, branch profitability and achievement of sales goals while adhering to compliance and operational procedures as well as applicable regulatory standards, requirements and policies. This position maintains a positive public image and an understanding of the industry trends to offer a full range of deposit and consumer loan products and services.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Coach and motivate the staff to increase the depth of customer relationships, retention and loyalty of Bank customers.
  • Provide employees with guidance in handling difficult or complex problems or in resolving escalated complaints or disputes.
  • Discuss job performance problems with employees to identify causes and issues and to work on resolving problems.
  • Prepare and issue work schedules, deadlines and work assignments for staff.
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing and selecting employees.
  • Make provisions for the proper orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Train or instruct employees in job duties or company policies or arrange for training to be provided.
  • Identify training needs and opportunities; develop and implement a plan for meeting those needs, e.g., conduct training, provide cross training, etc.
  • Communicate and administer work procedures and company polices to staff.
  • Evaluate employees’ job performance and conformance to regulations and recommend appropriate personnel action.
  • Make recommendations for staffing, training, performance appraisals, promotions, career development, salary actions and terminations.
  • Provide support and encouragement to foster teamwork and a positive environment.
  • Create an atmosphere encouraging upward communication from employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct and manage the branch to ensure efficient and effective operation by performing the following:

o Oversee the day-to-day workflow of the branch.

o Schedule staff to ensure sufficient coverage to service customers and manage operational duties.

o Properly implement and maintain approved policies and procedures.

o Foster an environment of providing excellent customer service by modeling and promoting our Service Standards.

o Review and recommend improved operating policies and procedures.

  • Develop retail and commercial business through expansion and retention of customer relationships.

o Communicate new ideas and marketing strategies within branch market area to improve sales, cross-sells and marketing.

o Provide input into branch goals.

o Provide sales and service training and develop branch initiatives.

 Train employees on Bank products and services.

 Train branch staff on our Financial Services and Alternative Mortgage.

 Coach employees to recognize referral opportunities.

 Establish interactions between branch staff and representatives from Financial Services and Alternative Mortgage departments.

o Incorporate approved goals into employee expectations and performance appraisals.

o Conduct regular staff meetings to ensure that goals and objectives are clearly communicated with branch staff.

o Monitor branch and employees’ goal progress.

o Provide guidance and leadership to enable staff to meet branch goals and objectives.

o Maintain and develop positive relationships with existing and prospective customers, demonstrating excellent customer service and setting an example for branch staff.

o Identify opportunities to capture new business and expand existing customer relationships and plan initiatives accordingly.

o Promote Bank products and services including referrals for Advisory Board members.

o Participate in community activities to promote the organization and to build goodwill.

o Understand the business environment and the community leaders in the market the branch serves.

  • Develop a quality consumer loan portfolio to obtain the Bank’s loan growth objectives.

o Interview loan customers.

o Prepare and processes applications and documentation for all loans.

o Prepare necessary loan tracking reports.

o Requires S.A.F.E. Act certification. Proof of registration with the registry and verification of a unique identifier as established under the guidelines of the S.A.F.E. Act is required upon hire and/or must be obtained prior to performing the duties of a Mortgage Loan Originator, as defined by the Act. This registration must be maintained annually in accordance with the S.A.F.E. Act.

  • Ensure branch compliance with audit and regulatory updates, product enhancements, policy and procedure changes.

o Attend training opportunities.

o Complete compliance related coursework within deadlines and ensure branch staff meets required training deadlines.

o Seek developmental opportunities for both self and branch staff.

o Handle certain branch audit responsibilities in the areas of operations, compliance and security.

  • Monitor and adhere to branch budget.

o Manage branch profitability by paying particular attention to staffing, loan growth, deposit growth, fee income, efficiency ratios and all assigned budget items.

o Provide input to branch budget.

o Monitor and make decisions on assigned checking accounts related to overdrafts, service charges, return items, charge backs, etc.

o Conserve Bank resources and monitor expenses on a monthly basis to remain within allotted budget.

  • Maintain branch facilities.

o Ensure that branch facilities are in good operational repair and recommend capital improvements.

o Ensure branch is clean, safe and appears professional.

o Maintenance and upkeep are maintained.

o Work with Chief Operating Officer and supervisor for guidance.

  • Identify and recommend opportunities for increased efficiencies as appropriate.
  • Research, compile and prepare reports, manuals, correspondence or other information required by management or regulatory agencies.
  • Comply with government, regulatory and Bank policies and procedures.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years of related branch experience required.
  • Supervisory/management experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or minimum of five years additional training in management or Banking or related course work preferred.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Expert ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with others in a timely and friendly manner.
  • Expert ability to work under demanding time constraints and expectations, including prioritizing and handling multiple tasks throughout the day.
  • Expert ability to work in both autonomous and team settings.
  • Efficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Expert ability to model consistently a respectful, diverse, inclusive and collaborate work environment.
  • Consistently demonstrate a commitment to policies and procedures, including but not limited to, attendance, confidentiality, conflict of interest, and ethical responsibilities.
  • Ability to consistently attend work, meetings and required training or staff events.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Position is located in a branch that requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
  • Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels.
  • Ability to travel to corporate headquarters located in Wyalusing, PA, training locations, customer meetings, community events and company sponsored events.
  • Ability to sit or remain sedentary for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movement by constant operation of all office and computer equipment as required to perform position, such as a computer, copier/printer, fax, calculator/adding machine.
  • Ability to communicate with others to exchange information through telephone conversations, electronic mail, writing letters and memos and face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams.
  • Ability to lift objects on a limited basis of approximately 25 pounds.
