We are currently seeking a highly motivated, organized and dedicated Registered Nurse to perform duties part-time (3 days a week) in the Pain Clinic at Putnam County Hospital. The individual must possess the ability to multi-task a wide variety of duties efficiently and adjust to unexpected changes in the schedule and/or workflow within the clinic/PACU setting.
Shift Assignment/Hours: First Shift Hours, 3 days a week part-time
Reports to: Clinic Manager
Summary Objective
This position is responsible for the direct care of pain management patients on a day to day basis, including hands-on patient care in both clinic and procedures. In this position, you will be part of a clinical team dedicated to helping patients who suffer from chronic pain receive safe and responsible treatment options that help them improve their quality of life. This position will assess, plan, direct, administer, teach, and evaluate nursing care, and ensure quality and efficiency according to established hospital and PMG policies and procedures.
Essential Functions

- Complete accurate documentation in patient records and charges.
- Support clinic team to follow the performance expectations for reaching the key performance indicators (KPIs) for a sustainable program: market capture goals, seeing four patients per hour, reaching 30% procedure ratio, and completing time out and chart audits to monitor quality of care.
- Assist physician and APCs with patient treatments.
- Offer support to patient and monitor patient throughout clinical/procedure visits.
- Complete dressing changes, suture and staple removal, pump refills, and pump reprogramming.
- Effectively identify potential risk events and provide intervention to assess and mitigate risks.
- Exhibit clinical judgement when making decisions and take immediate action in serious/emergency situations. Document situations and rationale for decision on appropriate forms, report situation immediately to proper persons, and evaluate the results of action taken.
- Assess data reflective of the patient status and interpret the appropriate information to identify each patient’s care requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
- Review and return clinical phone line messages regarding medication refills, consulting physician and patient questions in a timely manner, and appropriately document actions and follow up with staff and providers as required.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of surgical procedures, infection and isolation control procedures and aseptic technique.
- Demonstrate an awareness of and understanding of the surgical patient's needs for comfort, positioning and safety, and follow through to provide these needs.
- Use good body mechanics in the performance of duties.
- Utilize universal precautions when providing care and use supplies appropriately and avoids waste.
- Correctly identify patient by name for any direct care procedures and/or treatment and check identification of patient by use of two patient identifiers. Always verify with the patient the procedural laterality when appropriate.
- Actively participate in intradepartmental meetings and in-services and stay informed of changes within department.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to department and management line of authority and communication.
- Adhere to scheduling guidelines and expectations to reach pain management center patient per hour and referral management goals.
- Consistently demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changes in workload and assignments. Regularly offer assistance to others in order to complete workload.
- Display commitment to ongoing training and attend required educational programs.
- Maintain an awareness of new regulations and legislation affecting the profession, health care and current developments in the nursing field.
- Demonstrate knowledge of standards that reflect professional and JCAHO guidelines for care and recognizes personal accountability for these guidelines.
- Treat everyone as a customer.
- Adhere to attendance policy.
Qualifications
Experience and Requirements
Licensure/Certification/Registration (Required)
- Current Unrestricted State license as a Registered Nurse
- Experience strongly preferred
- BLS & ACLS certification required within 30 days of hire or transfer
Education
- Graduation from an accredited school or college of nursing (required)
- BSN preferred
Experience & Qualifications (required)
- Two years’ experience as a clinical nurse in a hospital environment, preferred experience in critical
care, surgery, or emergency department
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude to utilize programs such as Microsoft Office and Excel
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to read and follow instructions in English
Physical Demands
This position has a strong physical demand and requires a full range of body motion with intermittent
walking, lifting, bending, climbing, squatting, kneeling, twisting, sitting and standing. The associate will
be standing for 6-8 hours/day. The associate will be required to lift 50 pounds or more and lift above the
shoulders. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. Individual must
have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The individual must have good eye-
hand coordination and fine finger dexterity. This position is classified “at risk” for possible occupational
exposure to blood borne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.)
