What are the responsibilities and job description for the TEST TECHNICIAN position at QED Systems LLC?
QED Systems, LLC, is currently recruiting a Test Technician to join our team at APG, MD to support our C5ISR Center, RTI Directorate, Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) Division contract.
Duties:
- Verify and validate the compliance of serial communication messaging of PNT systems.
- Write and submit Test Incident Reports (TIRs) for Hardware (HW) and Software (SW) issues and/or failures.
- Integrate prefabricated kits comprised of HW and SW with military systems and vehicles in support of PNT field tests.
- Assist in the modification, test, and evaluation of GPS receivers, associated cooperative tracking systems, data acquisition and processing systems and equipment; this includes verification of interfaces between PNT Ground Control, Space Vehicles, and GPS Receivers.
- Conduct formal and informal tests to collect data to be analyzed to provide engineering recommendations.
- Support test planning and data analysis activities for formal requirements verification and risk reduction.
- Participate in planning conferences to assess test requirements, relevant conditions, required accuracies, and desired instrumentation coverage.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Detailed-oriented with excellent technical, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster professional relationships.
- Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Visio, and Outlook.
- Must be extremely motivated with the ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks.
- Comfortable in small (~3-4 people) and large (~15-20 people) team environments.
- Experience developing and reviewing test documentation, including TEMPs, TRR briefings, test plans, test procedures, and test reports.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with Compliance Test Software 153 (CTS-153).
- Experience with IS-GPS-153D serial interface standard.
- Experience with Mission Command Systems (JBC-P, MMC) and Tactical Radios.
- Experience with RF test equipment including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and software defined radios.
Required Clearance:
- ACTIVE CLEARANCE LEVEL REQUIRED: Secret
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of test experience.
Travel:
Less than 10% travel is expected for this position. Travel may include continental United States and outside continental United States locations.
Work Environment:
This position may be performed in a variety of locations, including but not limited to, commercial and/or government offices, test and integration labs, government facilities and depots, and test & evaluation and proving grounds.
Physical Demands:
Physical demands of this position include ability to:
- Be independently mobile.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers and customers.
- Withstand prolonged periods of sitting / standing at a desk and computer use.
- Climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
- Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as glasses/goggles (eyes), ear plugs/muffs (hearing), hard hats, and breathing respirators/masks.
- Operate powered vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, etc.
- Lift/push/pull objects weighing in excess of 20 pounds.
- Withstand exposure to noise from operating equipment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full‐time position, Monday through Friday. Flexibility around core hours. Travel may occur outside of normal core hours.

Estimated Salary Range: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00, annually. This represents the typical range for this position based on experience and other factors.
