Summary
The job performs routine assignments related to scientific research projects. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Writes articles, reports and manuscripts. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings.
The Sanger Sequencing sub-unit of the Genomics Facility has existed for 20- plus years and offers services ranging from sequencing client-provided DNA templates to performing plasmid preps on client-provided colony plates and moving these DNA templates forward to sequencing. This position provides expert technical support and execution of the Sanger sequencing and plasmid preparation services. Additionally, this position will need to be able to perform other Core related services as needed.
Responsibilities:
80% Processing client-supplied samples via the Sanger sequencing data collection workflow (bench):
- Process sample intake documents, set up Sanger sequencing reactions, perform sequencing reaction cleanups.
- Operate ABl3730xl and related equipment.
- Proficient in colony picking, bacterial culture, and plasmid preparation.
- Work closely with other facility staff to ensure timely delivery of samples to Pis.
(20%) Other Facility related functions as needed:
- Uses subject matter and best practices knowledge to perform lab-related duties and tasks.
- Rigorous record keeping of bench work and status of client's orders.
- Update clients on project progress as needed.
- Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
- Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Qualifications:
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Certifications:
Preferred Qualifications Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Genetics, or related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1-year prior experience in a Core or Research lab setting.
Preferred Competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate internally with co-workers and externally with Facility clients.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail oriented with strong sense of work ownership.
Working Conditions
