Overview

Radio Free Asia (RFA) is a private, Washington, DC-based, nonprofit corporation that provides accurate and timely news and information to Asian countries whose governments prohibit access to a free press. Delivered in nine Asian languages in addition to English, our journalism extends beyond radio to include web, video, mobile and e-books. 

Radio Free Asia Tibetan Service is seeking a skilled multimedia journalist who will be able to plan and execute the entire cycle of news production, creating compelling and engaging content that will help to broadcast through radio, TV, and various digital platforms. The ideal candidate will be an innovative, highly motivated multi–platform content creator who can fulfill various responsibilities to deliver high-quality daily and enterprise content to meet ever-evolving audience needs. This is a full-time position based in our Washington, DC, office.

Responsibilities

• Research, report, and produce high-quality, unbiased multimedia content in the form of daily spot news coverage to original, long-form features and in-depth, original reports that is aligned to the RFA mission of delivering accurate, timely, fact-based news and information for our core Tibetan audience, both inside and outside Tibet.
• Conduct live and pre-recorded interviews in-studio and during field assignments for different mediums and platforms; ensure quick-turnaround of news stories across platforms while ensuring they are fact-based, unbiased, accurate, grammatically correct, and relevant to our readers
• Produce and package daily news stories, feature programs, and special reports, from conception, planning and execution to promotion; find newsworthy and interesting story leads on a variety of subjects and issues of relevance for the Tibetan Service audience
• Build and maintain sources in the area of your specialization, leveraging deep sourcing to break exclusive stories; research information from relevant news sources – including archival footage, photos, public records, and government data – to support and enrich the multimedia content produced
• Leverage engaging, innovative storytelling formats across all digital and social media platforms to showcase the depth and breadth of RFA Tibetan’s reporting and grow its online presence; Consistently explore and experiment new trends and approaches to multimedia storytelling 
• Apply superb editorial judgment to identify news content suitable for different platform-specific audiences, collaborating with team members to produce compelling content and meet tight deadlines 
• Use production equipment – digital cameras, DSLRs, audio recorders, microphones, lights, and more – to perform a range of tasks related to multimedia production; edit audio and video reports at level consistent with an understanding of professional audio and video editing concepts, with strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly in Adobe Premiere and After Effects.
• Participate in website content management and social media to ensure they are updated; foster growth and engagement of existing and new audiences across different mediums and platforms through the production of high-quality, unbiased journalism 
• Execute other responsibilities as assigned
