Middle School Physical Education Teacher
The Middle School (MS) Physical Education Teacher contributes significantly to the holistic development of students by promoting physical fitness, health education, and overall wellbeing. The faculty member will deliver a PE curriculum designed to encourage and develop Physical Literacy, Healthy Behaviors, Decision Making, Communication, Stress Management, and Conflict Resolution. Their impact extends beyond the classroom, influencing the school culture and community as a whole.
Responsibilities
- Develop the whole student through the use of team sports, fitness-related activities, and age-appropriate health and wellness programs.
- Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual or team sports.
- Work cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balancedphysical education program.
- Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of sports, games, andfundamental body movements.
- Develop lesson plans. Provide individual and small group instruction and feedback to adapt thecurriculum to the needs of each student.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide a safe and orderly productiveenvironment in the physical education areas.
- Evaluate the academic and social growth of students to prepare individual reports on each student.
- Evaluate each student's growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution to team sports.
- Communicate well with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
- Supervise students in and out of the classroom activities during the day.
- Participate in student and parent activities, including clubs, after-school activities, and advisory.
- Attend professional, staff, and curriculum development meetings and events.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Physical Education and Health or related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Previous physical education and health teaching experience.
- CPR and first aid certification.
- Strong computer skills preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to coach a minimum of two after-school athletic programs.
- Ability to move set up and break down heavy class equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors, stand for long periods, and engage in physically demanding activities.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to tailor the message to the audience.
