- General Information
- Required Experience: RN: 2 years of CVOR experience – Level 1 or 2 trauma experience
- CST: 2 years of CVOR experience – Level 1 or 2 trauma experience
- Patient Types: Cardio and Thoracic surgeries – CABG, TAVR, Valve replacements, Thoracic cases (lobectomy, hernia repair), Generator exchanges, Lead extractions, Fem-pop bypass, open vascular cases, AAA, carotids, conversions
- Patient Ratios: OR 1:1
- Required Certifications: RN: BLS, ACLS
- CST: BLS, graduation from accredited school (required), CST (preferred)
- Required Education: RN: Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
- OR Tech: Associate Degree in a Healthcare related field OR CST certification
- Skills required: RN: Strong CVOR background is needed across all specialties – ability to work independently with minimal guidance in the following cases: CABG, TAVR, Valve replacements, Thoracic cases are robotic (lobectomy, hernia repair), Generator exchanges, Lead extractions, Heart transplants, Fem-pop Bypass
- CST: experience with above mentioned case types
- Scheduling: 8 or 10 hr. shifts – TBD during interview
- Weekend rotation: on call only
- Will they be on call? Yes – one overnight per week 7p-7a and every 3rd weekend.
- Holiday Expectations: potential to work every holiday
- Approval of time off? Reach out to Manager for approval.
- Support on the Unit: Surgery
- RN/First Assist/Surg Tech
- “2 Tech” Model – 2 techs in every case
- Both scrubbed in – both setup and do draping
- 1st is primary tech for the case (hands instruments, etc.)
- 2nd is there as a helping hands to support surgeon and team
- Everyone is floated through these positions routinely
- Charting System/Equipment: EPIC, Omnicell, Alaris
- Floating: If yes, where? RN & CST could float to Main OR and Central Sterile Processing
- Orientation: (facility and unit) RN: 5 (8) hour days, CST: 5 (8) hour days
