What are the responsibilities and job description for the IV Specialist RN position at Rapid Recovery?
Rapid Recovery (an IV spa with locations in Shreveport, Bossier City, Tyler, and Longview) is hiring an experienced RN who is an ace, "go-to" IV starter.
This position is Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasionally the work day will go a little longer (if an IV is running slowly, or there's an issue that requires staying a little late). You will actually work and be paid for 9 hours a day (more if you stay after 5), as it's unlikely you'll be able to leave for lunch (because we take walk-ins and lunch is usually a fairly busy time). You'll clock in and clock out on the Bamboo app. You will likely work between 36 and 38 hours per week.
This is a low-stress position, but we're very serious about medical safety, infection control, and patient experience. You have to be a combination super-IV starter, and friendly caregiver.
Because we are a spa as opposed to an urgent care or ER, our patients do not expect to be stuck three times to start their infusion. Also, because we're a spa you will not have to deal with typical urgent care situations involving broken bones, open wounds, etc., etc. Our patients come to us by choice, and are spending a fairly good amount of money, so we get a much lower level of acuity, and a happy, clean patient population. They expect to be well taken care of. Part of getting an IV here isn't just the fluids, it's what we call The Rapid Recovery Experience, and you're a BIG part of that.
Some things to note before applying:
1. We can not hire anyone with any disciplinary action on their license, even if it was in the past.
2. Because we see a higher end clientele, we can not hire anyone who has facial piercings. No nose rings, studs, eyebrow rings, lips studs or rings, or any visible facial piercing. Though we realize this has nothing to do with your skills as a nurse and the best nurse in the world might have all the piercings we mentioned, it doesn't sit well with the demographic we serve.
3. If you have visible tattoos you will have to cover them EVERY shift. Even in the summer you will be required to wear a jacket/long-sleeved shirt at all times during your shift if you visible tattoos.
4. You will be THE nurse for the location, and therefore must be incredibly reliable. If someone is sick, you have a car issue, there's a school function, etc., and can't make it to the office for your shift, it's not likely we'll be able to find coverage for you, and so we'll be closed. This confuses and upsets patients, as we take walk-ins. We have to be consistent. Further, we end up paying rent, utilities, and an assistant and are still closed. If you miss two shifts, we have to replace you. We simply can't afford to be closed as it costs money and damages our reputation.
5. We have very plainly laid out Policies and Procedures, from which we do not deviate, and you will be tested on them before starting. You'll be provided a manual, and given a link to take the test, on which you'll need to score a 90 before beginning work.
Job Pros:
1. It's not a very busy office, so it will not be high stress. Ten patients in one day (each lasting about an hour) is a BUSY day. If you do happen to be busy, we give a $15 bonus for every IV you start after the tenth.
2. There's no screaming, crying, bleeding, etc. It's a very sedate environment.
3. We provide your uniform at no cost.
4. Each nurse gets one free IV per month (up to a $169 value), which you can use for yourself, or give to a friend or family member.
5. You will generally have plenty of time to study for an NP class (we've had three nurses start NP school and finish while working for us), binge a TV show, read, etc.
6. The pay is not as high as some hospital positions, but you'll quickly realize that for this job, it's excellent.
7. We don't do anything crazy. It's basically just vitamins and non-narcotic meds. We NEVER ask anyone to do anything that might jeopardize their license. We have VERY strict guidelines, and we follow them. We also never ask you to treat any patient you're uncomfortable treating. Your license is way more important than treating any patient.
8. We have snacks! ;-)
Job Cons:
1. We can work out a paid vacation agreement, but because we're so small and most of our employees are part-time contract employees we have no benefits other than the free IV and the vacation.
2. We have to know WELL in advance if you need/want time off. There's not much scheduling flexibility because you are the bedrock employee of the office.
3. If you continually need 3 sticks to start IVs, or miss work, we have to replace you.
If this sounds like it might be the job for you, please apply. This might not be the job for everyone, and everyone might not be the right fit for us, but if you think this might be for you and we think you're a fit, you'll love working here. It's a really cool, low-stress job in a great environment.
