Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments to evaluate client vocational skills, interests, education, work history, and potential barriers to employment, including those related to substance use and co-occurring disorders.
- Develop personalized vocational rehabilitation plans that align with each client’s recovery goals, addressing their employment, training, or educational needs.
- Provide career counseling, including guidance on career options, job search strategies, resume writing, interview skills, and workplace expectations tailored to the unique challenges faced by individuals in recovery.
- Collaborate with counselors, case managers, and other team members to ensure that vocational services support the overall recovery plan and address any intersecting mental health or social service needs.
- Establish relationships with local employers and vocational training providers to create job and internship opportunities suitable for individuals in recovery.
- Facilitate group and individual training sessions on work readiness skills, financial literacy, time management, and workplace communication.
- Regularly track and document client progress toward vocational goals, adjusting plans as necessary to overcome emerging barriers.
- Link clients with community resources, including educational programs, job placement services, legal assistance, and housing support to address external factors impacting vocational success.
- Maintain accurate records of client services and outcomes and report on program metrics to assist in the evaluation of program effectiveness.
- Perform other duties as delegated by the program, clinical, or Senior Director.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling, psychology, social work, or related field. Master’s Degree and/or CRC (Certified Rehabilitation Counselor) preferred.
- One year of experience and/or training in providing vocational rehabilitation services, preferably with individuals recovering from substance use disorder.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Understanding of the vocational challenges faced by individuals with substance use histories.
- Experience with individual and group counseling.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Basic keyboard and computer proficiency (Windows/Microsoft Office).
- Valid NYS Driver’s license.
- Familiarity with substance use disorder treatment, mental health, and the local job market.
