JOB SUMMARY
Assistant Managers are responsible for assisting the Store Managers in their daily duties and managerial tasks. Assistant Managers generally work a different shift than the Store Manager to make sure that we have a manager on duty for our customers and employees. Assistant Managers assist in maximizing sales and gross profit dollars while controlling expenses and protecting the company’s assets and serving as the Store Manager's surrogate on days off, during vacations, etc.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Assistant Manager is responsible for accomplishing the normal Store Manager duties when the Store Manager is absent from the site, whether that occurs on the Store Manager's normally scheduled days off, vacations, illnesses, etc. Specifically, the Assistant will:
- Maintain proper controls on cash, inventory and expenses.
- Complete, transmit and upload all end-of-day reports before leaving for the day.
- Complete all required logs, controls and fuel inventory.
- Arrange bank deposits daily by the established deadline.
- Analyze sales trends by shift and by day. Request assistance from the Store Manager and District Manager when needed.
- Assist the Store Manager in the following activities:
- Recruit screen and train new employees.
- Coach and direct the activities of employees in store on a day-to-day basis and provide on-going training.
- Help write and enforce work schedules for all employees within the labor guidelines established.
- Delegate duties as necessary.
- In the absence of the Manager, the Assistant Manager is authorized to hire or dismiss any other employee only with the approval of the CEO.
- Cover open shifts.
- Ensure that store meets corporate standards (safety, appearance, security, etc.) and that all employees comply with company poli¬cies. This responsibility includes addressing any maintenance issues, resolving any discrepancies, and conducting a Beginning of Day walk-through.
- Order groceries to avoid both overstocked and out-of-stock conditions.
- Check in vendors.
- Ensure merchandising procedures are implemented on a timely basis. Displays for sale items should be built timely and should include proper product on pricing on the correct signage.
- Update the price book as directed and effect price changes as they occur.
- Change fuel prices as directed, in a timely manner.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to read, write and understand the English language; fluency in other languages is a plus.
- Pass all required training including alcohol, tobacco, UST and food handler testing.
- Ability and willingness to work long and sometimes unusual hours, standing for extended periods.
- High school level math competency.
- Have a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
