Operations – Life Support Systems (LSS) Operator
Department/Division/Section: Operations – LSS Operator
Job Summary/Essential Functions: The LSS Operator is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of
all life support systems and animal habitat support systems. This position reports directly to the Director
of Operations.
Overview
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:
- Following all safety procedures including wearing protective eyewear and using lock out/tag out
guidelines encouraging coworkers to do the same
- Holding the health and well-being of our exhibits as a top priority
- Maintaining all life support equipment in good repair, ensuring it is all fully functional
- Maintaining all back of the house areas to the same cleanliness standard as the front of the house
- Reporting to work on time and in proper uniform
- Backwashing filters, maintaining and repairing LSS equipment, proper LSS record keeping
- Immediately correcting anything that is broken or in need of attention in the public areas. If you
cannot fix it, inform Director of Operations immediately
- Completing projects accurately, thoroughly, completely and in a timely manner. All repairs are to
be done the right way, not shortcuts and avoid quick but improper fixes
- Maintaining work areas in a neat and orderly fashion and putting all tools away in their proper
place at the end of each shift
- Communicating with and supporting Director of Operations and husbandry staff as needed
- Completing LSS rounds as needed
- Following proper procedures for starting up and shutting down the building as needed
Physical Requirements:
- Working indoors and outdoors
- Lifting objects up to 80 pounds
- May involve work on stepladders or lifts, reaching overhead, bending, and stooping
- May be asked to work on potentially hazardous equipment. (it is your responsibility to exercise
extreme caution in these circumstances and not to do anything you do not feel comfortable doing)
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job either with or without reasonable
accommodation.
