What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Safety Supervisor position at River City Construction, Inc.?
Position Purpose:
The Field Safety Supervisor is responsible for acting as a front-line safety professional that conducts safety inspections, observations, investigations, and training for utility construction workers and supporting staff.
Reports to Manager Operational Safety
Core Responsibilities
- Perform crew observations at utility construction worksites and provide feedback on behaviors, work processes, and compliance
- Inspect workplace facilities and recommend solutions for mitigation of identified risks and hazards
- Document all observations and inspection findings and prepare reports for management review
- Provide coaching and mentoring for employees that exhibit unsafe behaviors and provide recognition for employees that exhibit safe behaviors
- Recognize hazards and implement mitigation controls and barriers as necessary to reduce the risk of injuries and damages
- Aid with developing and delivering New Hire Orientation for new employees and other training as needed
- Perform Incident Investigations, identify root cause analysis, and develop recommendations for corrective actions
- Obtain certifications as needed to support safety and training functions
- Assist with acquisition and delivery of PPE to employees
- Support Leadership in the development and execution of weekly safety meetings
- Respond as needed to support Storm Restoration efforts both regionally and nationally
- Interact with customer representatives as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Primary Functions
Perform crew observations and document findings

Perform vehicle inspections and document findings
Perform Incident Investigations and document findings
Maintain Personal PPE inventory and distribute to field employees as needed
Maintain PPE/Equipment stock (Fire Extinguishers/First Aid Kits/ Slings)
Participate in New Hire Orientation (First Aid/CPR/Flagging)
Mentor and Coach employees as needed
Assist with Weekly Safety Meetings
Hold Safety Standdowns as required
Assist with Assessments as needed
Interact with customer representatives as needed
Supporting Functions
- Assist with moving vehicles as needed
- Standing in as Foreman when needed
- Standing in as General Foreman when needed
- Assist in building Grounding Cables
Storm Restoration
- Respond with crews during Storm Restoration Efforts
- Call in Locate Tickets
- Support logistical requirements as needed (PPE, food, fuel, clothing)
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in linework either overhead or underground
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally both verbally and in writing
- Proficient in MS office
- Strong Communication skills
- Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role
