Job Summary
The Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist prepares and operates imaging equipment used in cardiac catheterization lab procedures, administers contrast, assists the physician with all procedures, monitors the patient, and collects data for physician and/or RN assessment.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare equipment for Cardiac Catheterization and all other procedures performed in the Cath Lab.
- Accurately adjust equipment for proper exposure in accordance with radiation safety. Monitor the operation of Radiographic equipment during procedures and assist with quality control and maintenance of department equipment.
- Provide patients with education and explanation or X-ray procedures that will be performed.
- Collect data from each procedure and accurately enter information into appropriate computer systems for physician and/or RN assessment.
- Perform required and recommended testing with all equipment and record the information before completion of procedure.
- Serve as scrub assist to Cardiologist and/or Radiologist for all types of procedures performed in Cardiac Cath Lab.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in departmental operational practices, policies and procedures and take action to inform or make appropriate changes within scope of authority.
- Serve as a preceptor for new hires or transfers to the department and provide job specific training as assigned.
- Perform Laboratory testing according to CLIA 88 regulations.
- Serve on call for rotating weekend, holiday and week-nights as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
- Minimum: Associate degree and graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology
Experience Requirements
- Minimum: New graduates welcome
- Preferred: Two (2) years of cardiac cath or interventional radiology experience
License/Certification Requirements
Minimum:
- Current American Registry Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) and Radiology Technologist License in the State of Indiana
- Basic Life Safety (American Heart Association)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Association)
