PROGRAM DESIGN: RTS facilitates a variety of youth programs including after-school, summer camps, retreats, conferences and summer employment opportunities reaching thousands of young people throughout NYC each year. RTS emphasizes the youth development practice of the Circle of Courage in all our programs; creating an environment of Belonging, where young people can build their Independence, find and develop their Mastery skill, and practice Generosity in their communities. At the core of our programs are staff training strategies that enable our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the young people in their care who we call Our Future Leaders because that is what they all are.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The primary function of the Social Worker is to help the organization solve and cope with different issues regarding mental health, child welfare, or human services.

ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE:

• Supervisor: Community School Director
• Max Hours: 30 per week
• Days: 5 per week, Monday - Friday 
• Compensation: $28- $30 per hour

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop workshops and professional development.
• Facilitate staff training around mental behaviors and academic interventions.
• Recruit new school partnerships to provide mental health assistance.
• Provide mental health counseling to staff, participants, and families.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed whether individually or in groups.
• Provide referrals to appropriate treatment centers, as indicated.
• Research and advocate for appropriate public assistance resources or community partnerships.
• Conduct initial assessments to determine needs and goals.
• Ensure all case files and records strictly comply with policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements by staying informed on existing and new legislation.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as requested by the School Social Worker.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A degree in MSW required. LMSW/LCSW preferred.
• At least three years of experience in youth development.
• At least four years of experience in social work in a school setting.
• Strong communication skills, critical thinking, and active listing skills.
