Nature of Work
The Technology Technician is responsible for working with system-level technology staff, technicians, and network engineers, as well as with school staff and supervisors. This individual is responsible for the deployment and maintenance of all technology related equipment in the school system.
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Supports school staff in the operation of instructional and administrative technology systems.
- Assists in the integration of technology into the instructional programs.
- Serves as a source of information on trends, research, applications, and effective practices related to technology use in the school program.
- Serves as a system contact for all technology related communication.
- Installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
- Review performance of technology systems to determine operation costs, productivity levels, and upgrade requirements.
- Research potential technology systems relating to network products, services, protocols, and standards.
- Attends classes, trade shows, conferences, and seminars to enhance knowledge of equipment and software systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge and understanding of wired and wireless networks.
- Ability to install and maintain both desktop and portable computing hardware.
- Good understanding and technical knowledge of current network and PC operating systems, hardware, protocols, and standards.
- Demonstrated ability to apply technology in solving problems.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Suggested Training and Experience
- Associates degree in a technical field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering and/or 2 years related work experience.
- A , Network , and/or comparable industry-standard certification.
- 2 year's experience managing technology infrastructure in an educational environment.
