ACADEMIC AFFAIRS ANNOUNCES AN OPENING IN THE STEM DIVISION
POSITION: Professor, Chemistry
Description of Duties: Teach assigned courses in accordance with the course syllabi and the schedule of classes; administer final exams in accordance with published schedule unless an exception is approved in writing by the Division Dean. Participate in the revision of existing course syllabi or write new ones. Cooperate with other professors in carrying out instructional procedures agreed upon. Collaborate on textbook changes. Maintain daily attendance records of students. Maintain accurate scholastic records of students enrolled in classes and submit grade reports according to the schedule of the Division Dean. Assist as assigned by the Division Dean as a member of college committees. Attend all scheduled faculty meetings. Demonstrate improved competence and instructional techniques through continued professional development. Maintain a minimum twenty-seven and one-half hour per week assignment on campus, including teaching an equated 15 credit hours of instruction. Provide a copy of office hour schedule to the Division Dean. Provide academic advisement for students informally or as assigned by the Division Dean. Carry out other duties as assigned by the Division Dean or Chemistry Program Coordinator. Maintain the same high standards of excellence for directed study and online courses as the standards applied in the regular classroom. Abide by the Rose State College Chemistry Lab Safety Policy when teaching labs. When laboratories and classrooms are open, it is the responsibility of the professor involved to supervise student use of these facilities. If the professor cannot be present, arrangements for supervision must be made with another faculty member, laboratory supervisor, or the Division Dean.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in the discipline or related area, OR Master’s Degree plus 18 graduate hours in the discipline. One (1) year teaching experience. Excellent oral/written communication skills are needed to interact with and teach students of varying socio-economic backgrounds. A successful candidate will be able to plan and carry out effective instructional lessons and utilize instructional technology. Proficiency with computers and MS Office (Word and Outlook). Light carrying up to 10 lbs and light lifting up to 10 lbs required. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-campus and to visit off-campus sites/facilities.
Desired Qualifications: Two (2) years college-level teaching experience. Experience/education/training related to working at a community college. A profound desire to teach freshman and sophomore level chemistry courses. Experience using laboratories/computers to supplement classroom instruction. Proficiency with the use of computer software applications in teaching courses. An earned PhD in Chemistry or closely related discipline.
