Located in the heart of North Carolina’s Piedmont, Rowan County is attractively and conveniently nestled between the state’s largest city and its Capitol. The County is currently accepting applications for the position of CPS Social Worker (Assessment). This position assesses reports of child abuse and neglect according to required time frames and assesses safety and risk; when safety is at issue, works with the family, supervisor and other staff to make the most appropriate plan of protection, which may include foster care if safety cannot be assured through other services. This position provides expert testimony in court hearings and works in cooperation with law enforcement agencies as required. This position requires timely, thorough documentation of work performed. This position may make referrals for needed services outside DSS when appropriate. This position works in crisis situations where decisions are often made under pressure and/or in a hostile environment.
Requires a Master’s Degree in Social Work and one year of human services work experience in the areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and two years of work experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree in a human service field and three years of work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; a Master’s Degree or bachelor's degree in social work with completion of the N.C. Child Welfare Collaborative Program will equal one year of experience credit. Requires skillful use of Microsoft Office products, such as MS Word and Excel, as well as the ability to learn case management and document management systems. Experience with the NC Child Welfare Information System and/or Northwoods Compass Pilot is preferred. Bilingual applicants and applicants having completed 72 hours of Pre-Service Training are preferred. Degrees/Coursework must be from an appropriately accredited institution. If degree is not in Social Work, please submit a copy of transcript with application. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
Starting Salary $65,000—$71,500 (commensurate with experience) and excellent benefits package available. Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications and with preservice training may be eligible for $20K sign-on bonus.
