The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a strategic business leader who plays a pivotal role in driving the organization’s digital transformation and aligning technology initiatives with business goals. Beyond being a technologist, the CIO must possess a deep understanding of the organization's vision, culture, and market dynamics.

In this role, the CIO will:

  • Lead Innovation: Foster a culture of innovation by leveraging technology to enhance business processes, improve customer experiences, and drive growth.

  • Build Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and execute a technology strategy that supports overall business objectives, ensuring that IT investments are aligned with the organization’s mission and vision.

  • Deliver Cross-Functional Influence: Serve as a key liaison between technology and other departments, bridging the gap between technical capabilities and business needs, and ensuring that IT initiatives deliver measurable value.

  • Drive Change Management: Champion organizational change by promoting a technology-forward mindset, facilitating training and support for staff, and driving engagement in digital initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in both technology management and business strategy, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business insights.

Duties and Responsibilities

Business leader responsibilities:

  • Understand and embrace the culture, history, and vision of the Firm and its leaders.
  • Understand all aspects of operations with the Firm.
  • Build strong relationships with service unit and Firm operations leaders.
  • Promote, debate, and discuss ideas to challenge traditional approaches with new and fresh ways of working.
  • Manage business risk effectively by helping the Firm adapt to unexpected events through risk mitigation, contingency planning, and diversification.

Strategic responsibilities:

  • Identifies new and emerging technologies, determines business value, and translates them into digital transformation initiatives that can improve internal processes and possibly drive new revenue opportunities or accelerate company growth.
  • Build a digital transformation discipline and mindset across the organization, not just in IT.
  • Lead business, culture, and technology change within the Firm.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline and optimize business and IT processes.
  • Network with technology leaders from other Firms to gain valuable insight and understanding of accounting and technology challenges within the industry.
  • Collaborate with legal, risk management and compliance teams to address data privacy and other compliance requirements.

Operational responsibilities:

  • Relentlessly deliver on high performing core systems and operational efficiencies.
  • Create a robust security framework that addresses cybersecurity, physical security, risk management, and incident response.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce security policies and procedures to protect critical data.
  • Focus on strong internal customer engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with service line leaders, CFO, and IT managers and team members to develop an annual operating and capital budget while managing to the approved budget.
  • Conduct regular assessments of IT systems and processes to identify deficiencies and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure projects are managed professionally and results are delivered in-scope, on-time, and on-budget.
  • Manage key business and technology vendors to foster long lasting relationships, ensure quality, minimize risks, and improve service delivery.
  • Assist in the review and negotiation of technology-related legal agreements.

People management responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct managers to develop long-term strategic plans and roadmaps.
  • Lead and direct managers to implement Firm and departmental goals.
  • Develop next generation of IT leaders through core skills training including leadership, communications, and business agility.
  • Lead by being a “eyes-on, hands-off” enabler creating a strong management team.
  • Closely manage and monitor the right level of people capacity for tasks and projects while ensuring sufficient capacity exists for working with Firm leaders on transformative ideas.
  • Implement an environment where diverse and inclusive people and ideas can mix to innovate and move the team forward.
  • Connect the work performed by technology teams to the Firm’s goals and values to develop strong bonds and drive shared accountability.
  • Ensure all technology team members have personal and professional goals that align with the goals of the department and the Firm, are reviewed regularly, and are used to manage and reward performance.
  • Teach and enforce high integrity, responsibility, and accountability for all IT team members.

Minimum Skills and Professional Attributes

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree
  • Strong leadership, communications, influence, and relationship building skills
  • Strong technical background and experience
  • Complete and thorough understanding of information technology and systems.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g. SOX, HIPAA, SOC, NIST, etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of information security principles and practices.

Ideal Skills and Professional Attributes

  • Masters in Business Administration or Masters degree in Computer Science
  • CPA certification or accounting background
  • At least 10 years working in a professional service organization as a CIO or senior level manager
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification

Working Conditions

  • The typical office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 
  • Ability to work extra hours as determined by the workload and client expectations
  • Travel for this position will be minimal
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to move throughout office
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 30-50 pounds
  • Ability to speak English to communicate with clients, team members, etc.
