Job Summary

Provides gardening knowledge and expertise as well as training to "Victory Garden" volunteers and community food preservation workshops. Works collaboratively with the Chilkat Valley Food Hub for community-wide distribution efforts.
Essential Functions, Duties And Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day operations of the Victory Garden, a 6,000 square foot community garden and oversee a 1,000 square foot expansion project.
- Provide oversight for seed starting, weekly work parties, compost development and management, harvesting, distribution and storage.
- Conduct community outreach and engagement with diverse residents and organizations in the Chilkat Valley, with an emphasis on collaborations with the village of Klukwan.
- Work with the Chilkat Valley Food Hub Manager to document activities with photos and video, share posts to social media platforms, create and post flyers and actively seek media coverage.
- Produce two volunteer events during summer- June "Kick-off BBQ" & October "Put the Garden to Bed" harvest party.
- Document and evaluate program activities (including number and type of food planted, harvested and distributed). Document and evaluate volunteer numbers (including hours worked and jobs completed).
- Work directly with the CVFH Manager to improve and expand food security and community programs by collaborating with local organizations including the Klukwan Community Garden, Ecotrust, Takshanuk Watershed Council, Haines Assisted Living, Haines Senior Center, Lynn Canal Conservation and the Henderson Farm.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Employment Requirements And Required Education
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- State and federal background checks, including fingerprints, may be required.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully interpret and implement company and departmental policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Technical experience in coordinating projects; excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills including expertise in report writing and communication with a diverse audience.
- Responsible work ethic with reliable attendance.
- Proven ability and willingness to be self-directed in problem solving and decision-making and perform basic assignments with little or no direct supervision while also working effectively as a team member.
- Demonstrated intermediate level of computer skills necessary in order to use and create documents and reports, spreadsheets, workshop materials and slide presentations, and to enter data into intricate database programs and proficient use of Microsoft Word and email.
- Must keep all matters concerning participants in strictest confidence as required by HIPAA privacy and the 42 CFR, Part II confidentiality regulations.
- Must be able to provide its own transportation to meet work schedule requirements.
- Agency recommends annual TB screening and physical as part of employee's personal wellness plan. (Recommendation - Not a requirement of this position)
- Gardening knowledge and experience.
- Experience with program coordination.
- Prior experience gardening in Haines for more than one season.
