SUMMARY: As a Field Engineer, this position is responsible for supporting field operations at marine and railroad project locations for Russell Marine, LLC. The Field Engineer is responsible for the surveying and measuring of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction or repair of marine terminals, dock facilities, and/or railroad bridges.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
The Company expects and requires all employees to observe and fulfill all safety responsibilities as outlined in workplace safety training and actively work toward maintaining a safe workplace. Employees are authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or is observed as well as bring problems to the attention of the immediate supervisor, HSE Manager, or HR Manager. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Regular attendance and punctuality are required of all employees. Employment at Russell Marine, LLC is on an “at-will” basis. There is no contract of employment between Russell Marine, LLC and any one or all of its employees unless explicitly stated elsewhere. Employment security cannot be guaranteed for or by any employee. No Manager, Supervisor, or employee of the Company has any authority to enter into an agreement for employment for any specified period of time or to make an agreement for employment other than at-will. SUMMARY: As a Field Engineer, this position is responsible for supporting field operations at marine and railroad project locations for Russell Marine, LLC. The Field Engineer is responsible for the surveying and measuring of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction or repair of marine terminals, dock facilities, and/or railroad bridges.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Export and analyze IFC drawings and field layout data and provide reports/updates on potential conflicts.
- Perform topographic and construction surveys for site/building locations and other properties including documentation of pre-existing site conditions while establishing new control points related to the scope of work.
- Survey and verify the location and elevation of concrete foundations, footings, columns, caps, anchor bolts, and other structures (falsework, templates, final pile location, etc.) to ensure accuracy during installation.
- Conduct daily inspections of survey equipment such as testing the equipment to ensure it complies with safety regulations.
- Verify the accuracy of all material dimensions and quantities as they arrive at the project site.
- Verify the 2D/3D CAD Model scope of work.
- Perform basic and advanced field calculations for all aspects of survey work.
- Collaborate and work closely with project managers, construction crews, and government agencies as needed to support project success.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Survey Manager.
- Certification(s): High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or be willing/eligible to obtain one upon hire. Valid Driver’s License.
- Experience: 5 years of field surveying experience in the construction industry.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): Thorough knowledge of land surveying principles and practices. General knowledge and understanding of compliance and regulations necessary for the project. Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills in English to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers. Ability to produce status reports. Completes fast and accurate calculations to provide analytical field reports. Identifies complex problems, develops and evaluates options, and implements solutions.
- Certification(s): Adult First Aid w/ CPR and AED. Licensure by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Experience: Field surveying experience in marine construction.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): Thorough knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations, based on the project specifics.
- The individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
- The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes a hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal floatation devices (PFD), and/or other protective equipment.
- The individual frequently works near moving mechanical parts and must be able to adapt to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
- The individual may be required to work long hours and/or weekends. Additionally, some out-of-town or overnight travel may be required.
- The individual may occasionally be required to sit in a vehicle for up to 8 hours.
- The individual must meet specific vision abilities, such as close vision and color vision.
- The individual may be required to walk, step, climb, or otherwise move from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
- The individual may occasionally be required to stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, or sit for long periods.
- The individual may be required to lift objects with a minimum of 10 lbs. and a maximum single-person lift of 50 lbs. This could result in frequent lifting or carrying depending on project needs.
