SUMMARY

This position manages adjusters within Ryder's self-insured, self-administered physical damage program. Oversees claim-handling processes performed by a professional staff. Handles complex insurance and contractual coverage issues, with a primary emphasis on complex high exposure total loss and physical damage claims. Assists Director in the identification of exposures, recommends solutions, promotes loss prevention and monitors compliance with procedures and supervises documented safety / risk management programs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Managing a team of adjusters in the Investigations, vehicle inspections, and resolves complex and high exposure claims, as well as directs outside repair vendors, independent adjusters, experts, and other vendors in the claim handling processes. Manage outside vendors retained for investigations, cost containment, salvage vendors and repair facilities to ensure claims are being handled properly according to the applicable jurisdictions. Provide feedback to Director regarding timeliness and repair quality of vendors
  • Manage assigned staff to ensure both technical expertise and a high level of customer service are attained. Monitors staff's technical work and develops and implements action plans if deficiencies are noted. Monitors staff's workflow to ensure accurate processing of claims, timely establishment of reserves, claim reviews and loss run coding. Responsible for coaching, education, audits, file reviews and performance appraisals of assigned staff. Assists Director with other staff as directed. Work with Director and other management team to develop tactics and strategies to achieve annual metrics and other KPI’s
  • Participates with the Director in the selection and management of outside vendors for investigation, cost containment, audit functions, expert witnesses, and salvage disposal
  • Interacts with field and operations management, billing and vehicle administration, legal counsel, safety managers, customers, and insurance carriers. Participates in large claim review calls and updates field operations personnel on claim status. Assists all field personnel on escalated issues arising out of the physical damage repair or total loss
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of relevant laws and regulations governing Property and Casualty claims in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. Handles cases in compliance with state statutes. Works directly with various State Departments of Insurance on inquiries and complaints. Alerts the Director to changes and proposed changes in laws that could impact Ryder’s liability and physical damage program
  • Reviews reserves and trends on individual cases, and recommends and sets timely and accurate reserves based on documented file developments. Ensures the most appropriate resolution of all claims is reached, and that a high level of customer service is attained

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Primary backup for the Director assisting as directed with claim assignments, reviewing and tracking all facets of vehicle repairs and authorizing use of adjusters and appraisers

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience required.

EXPERIENCE

  • Seven (7) years or more experience in casualty or physical damage claim handling experience, Ability to handle and manage large and complex physical damage exposures
  • Two (2) years or more experience Supervisor and/or Manager experience

SKILLS

  • Strong commitment to the principles of customer focus
  • Requires superior physical damage claim technical skills, past experience handling commercial auto claims and a comprehensive understanding of the related coverage’s
  • Superior negotiation skills and ability to deal effectively with customers, claimants and insurers
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written communications
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, educate and develop staff members
  • Ability to effectively communicate precise directions to staff members
  • Ability to monitor staff members workflow to ensure timely resolution of assigned work

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of supervisory techniques and interpersonal skills; advanced level.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise assigned staff members responsible for handling physical claims including conducting audits and performance appraisals; intermediate level.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and manage large physical damage exposures ; advanced level.
  • experience in completing detailed and quality internal reports. Adhering to all reporting requirements; advanced level.
  • experience in managing assigned staff to meet assigned goals and metrics; intermediate level; preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and manage complex insurance and contractual coverage claims; intermediate level; preferred.

Other Adjuster License , preferred.

Salary is determined based on internal equity; internal salary ranges; market

data/ranges; applicant’s skills; prior relevant experience; certain degrees or

certifications, etc.

The salary for this position ranges from $79,300.00 - $118,850.00
